Which AMP for Monitor Audio GX100 monitors

Hello everyone.

In a near future will buy a stereo system with Monitor Audio GX100 speakers but I do not know which Amp should I choose.

I am thinking about Arcam A38, Cambridge Audio Azur 840A v2, Yamaha A-S2000 and Goldenote S3 or S1 Signature.

As a source I am going to use a computer connected to a DAC (probably it will be rDAC from ARCAM or CA dacmagic).

Could you help me???

Thank you.

Firstly, the GX100 isn't even available yet in most countries (has it even released in the UK yet?) so no one here will be able to give you a viable answer. Secondly, if you're going to spend decent coin on a pair of speakers and an amp make sure your source component is up to scratch. Something like the rDAC and Dacmagic won't really give you the resolution and overall quality to take advantage of the higher quality amp and speakers. Instead I would look at something like the Rega DAC or thereabouts.

I think that they should be similar to PL100 monitors.

Arcam rDAC with Teddy Pardo PSU is a great source, especially if you use 24bit music and notebook with asio driver. If you do, it sounds like a class A source.

Maybe I will be able to get ex-demo pl100, one shop has a great offer. What would you recommend for them?

With a budget like this, auditioning speaker and amp combinations would be a good idea. All of the amps mentioned are liable to work well, but each has its own sound, which you might or might not like. The differences are very easy to spot when listening to records you know, and you will not know them all from reviews or user testimonies.

OK, thank for your replies. I have got another question. Monitor Audio says that the power of the amplifier for GX100 speakers should be between 60 to 120W.

I have got new Krell S300i intergated amp in my mind and it has got 150W of power, so 30 more than the highest value. Will it work properly? I am not talking about the sound, because I have to listen to this setup. I am asking if technically will it work properly?

Hello I resell Audio-gd gear so I wont comment on them.

I do have Monitor Audio PL300s which I purchased retail and do not resell.

The PL series are gorgeous speakers and if the GX seies are even close they will be fabulous.

They do respond very well to improvements in amplification and I know that the performance of my PL300s improved dramatically with biamping. I initially used 2 pairs of Linn Mono power amps with them.

Do enjoy them and let us know how you get on with them.  I am very tempted by a pair of the GX100s for one of my other systems.

Regards

Macrog

I am using 840A v2 for my GX300. I would say you go for audition before you decide.
