Best solid state amp under $1000 - Page 2

I'm definitely interested in an M^3 after reading a bit about them.  I'm just wondering if it would be much of an improvement over my channel island VHP-2, since they are around the same price point ($400 for the CI, and about $500 for an M^3).  Has anyone compared the M^3 to other amps or know of any other threads that do?

laker people  v200 is a good amp. I had burson 160 but much prefer the former. Also blue circle has some insteresting looking gears which sound really nice to me.

The M^3 is an excellent amp. Unbeatable for the price IMO. Get fishski to help you out with the build-specifics: http://solderworksaudio.com/Portfolio.html

If you want a more transparent (and better) amp, go for the GS-1, though it will cost quite a bit more. The Beta22 is also great, like an upgraded M^3 in terms of sound.

(I personally thought the M^3 was far superior to the Violectric V100 BTW).

Is solid state a must. I know Sasa Kovic has the W1000x and supposedly used it when developing the Trafomator Head One. I haven´t heard the W-1000x on that many amps but really worked really well with the Head One.

Otherwise the Goldpoint Headphone Pro work great with low impedance headphones including the W1000x. Though I did preferr the tube for that one.

Audio GD C-2.1 work well with just about anything as well. By far the best bang for buck amp I listened to and is way under your budget.

From the amps on you list, i've heard only about the Burson and Musical fidelity.

I think the Burson is a nice unit for the price, it drives denons, sennheisers and ortho hp's well.

what did you think of the MF compared to the burson for driving the denons?

SPL Auditor, or one of the Violectric amp's.

Bottlehead SEX 2.1 (not solid state).  A nice & easy build, it has loads of class and sounds great with all my headphones.   Like it better than my 3 channel Beta 22 with music whereas the Beta is better for gaming where I use the D-7000's mostly.  Can't go wrong for @ $550.00 and it is also a 2 watt speaker amp.
