first turntable set up

Thread Starter

greeting audiophiles!

I was just wondering what would be a good first turn table set up( turn tables, amps and what ever you would need). I'm looking for something not to expensive (eg : around $200). I'm not going to any mixing or scratching or anything like that I just wanna be able to listen to good quality music and don't know a whole lot about this subject.

You'll want to look for a vintage turntable on that budget.

There's a good thread here about the various older turntables. I don't know much about them.

For my first deck, I went with a used Rega Planar 3 for $400. I spent about $700 to get it set up correctly. You can do it for less, but you'll need to find an older deck on eBay or Craigslist.

$200 is a pretty tight budget.  I would try looking for a used Rega Planar 2 (P2) or NAD 533 on Audiogon.
