Looking for dedicated DAC with Sabre 9006 or higher

Preferably under 800, since I can get the Decco2 for that price.

I'm looking to be getting Sabre DAC 9006 (or equivalent)->Mapletree Ear+ Super II -> rs1i/HD650

I am assuming the Mapletree is a much better amp than the integrated one in the Decco2, but I want a nice DAC to use with my computer.

Any suggestions for another outstanding DAC under 800 USD?

Eastern Electric Minimax

Looks like a good alternative. But the USB problem really deters me, for I'll probably be using this with a laptop and I'd like to get to use the full 32/192.

Personally I will wait and buy the upcoming version of the Minimax in september. Long wait though!

Hmm, that is a long wait... I'll keep looking for one until I plan on buying close to August. If that's still the best for the price range I'm sure I can wait. Thanks for the info.

We can practise patience! don't get too hung up on the chips such as the sabre chip. Its how they implement these chips into the rest of the DAC that is important. Just having the chip withing the specs isn't going to make it a good DAC even though it's a highly regarded chip. I'm sure you have read about it.

Yeah, I've been doing a lot of research the past few days. Ill probably continue to do so over the next few months, never spent 3000 on something like this before...

I know what you mean, you can read endlessly. I'm thinking of buying a car for 1000 $ instead of a new desktop DAC. If i can afford it I'll buy that later when the 32-bit DAC market has stabelized, since it's quite new atm. HRT MS2+ USB DAC will do it for now.

The Cary Xciter goes up to 32/192 and the M2Tech Young goes up to 32/384.  The Calyx is also reported to be capable of 32/384.

Of course those are about twice what I'm willing to spend.

Yeah, you'd be hard-pressed to find the solution you're looking for at that price point.

I'll probably end up ditching the laptop as a host idea. Unless there's a good converter from usb to an SPDIF out that wouldn't take away from the quality.
