AKG K271 + Fii0 e5 = heresy ? Trying to avoid busting budget. What about the Ortofon 0-one?

I've been considering the AKG K271 but my budget is limited and I don't have an amp. I'll be using them from a clip+ which I understand will not be the greatest at driving these headphones. I've also read that without amping the k271s sounds "veiled".

Will it be worth my while buying the Fii0 to address this or looking for another solution? Will I simply end up destroying the virtues of the K271, especially detail? Anyone tried this combo?

I'm also considering the Ortofon O-one, living in Europe, as a way to avoid the need of an amp. But they bang through my budget and while at the same time there's really only one review and that might be a plant.

Any words of advice? I could do with some.

Might be a plant?  I always wanted to be one of those.  Hopefully I made big bucks writing it.  I will admit to being a plant if you will pay me to say it.

Please, please, someone make me a plant, a shill, anything.  Just pay me lots and lots of money so I can afford an Orpheus. That's all I ask.  I will say anything for a buck.

Seriously, though, I was under no obligation to say nice things about them and I don't think they're perfect headphones.  I like my ER4S a lot more and the HD25 is the same league as the O-One, just very very different tone and comfort and imaging.  I also think the PHX has vastly superior midrange.

Compare from djforums.com in my dedicated O-One review and the various comparisons in the 1st & 2nd roundup reviews to what that guy who wrote a roundup of 86 headphones on head-fi said about the PHX.  Now compare my statements way back then about the O-One to what Headroom says and the tests done by Tyll at Innerfidelity.com.  My ears and descriptions are identical to what the graphs of the frequency response and the transients/impulse response show.  I got all that from my ears.

Right smack dab on the money.

Now, at the $200 price the HD25-1-mk2 and the O-One go for usually now, I think based on the newest tests the Beyerdynamic DT1350 looks to be worth going another $50.  It is in a whole other class of waveform accuracy and low distortion.  If you can get a good deal on the HD25 or the O-One, then they're good headphones.  The HD280 is also nice, but seems to break on a lot of people.  That also sounds different than all these headphones.

When in doubt, go buy them and listen for yourself. Return the ones you don't like.  I've done that many many times.
