Got my k3003 (non-i) a month ago, its serial # is already at the 11k mark, now Made in P.R.C. Thankfully, it sounds as good and impressive as the first time I listened and auditioned it from a fellow hobbyist. Arguably, the best universal IEMs indeed (heard the IE800 with it having a bit of a colored sound and artifical bass and the K3003 just sounds superior overall, can't comment on the Shure SE846 though since I haven't listened to it yet)

Just hoping no durability and build issues arise in the near future. cool.gif

I believe Soundfreaq inquired about this with Brian Goto and he said he wouldn't do it for fear of screwing something up. Not sure if any of the other well known cable guys would attempt it though

I can see that. it seems like it would be too difficult to make it worth it.

Just picked up a used pair of the K3003is... serial no. in the 95xx or something I think (not sure since did not come with the original box, but instead going off of the number printed under the right-side earpiece housing, says "Made in Austria" on the mic/remote), and so far I've been quite surprised at how involved the sound of these IEMs can get, especially in regards to emotional "impact" and vocals presentation.

Although at first I found them kind of "sterile" and was a little underwhelmed at what I expected to be a little "fuller" sound since I've been using and listening to my Sennheiser IE800s almost exclusively every day for the past few months or so and am used to the bassy "full" sound of the IE800s. But after getting more used to the sound-signature of the AKG K3003is (using the reference filters, stock medium tips), it has slowly been beginning to impress me more and more when compared to the IE800s. As mentioned earlier, the impact/involving nature of the K3003's sound-signature is what really has impressed me so far, as I haven't heard/felt such an emotional "depth" to music with the IE800s. Also, I feel like the K3003i has a slightly wider soundstage than my IE800, resembling the Sennheiser IE80 soundstage more than anything else.

To be fair though, from what I've heard so far in the past few days in comparing and listening to the K3003is and my IE800s, the IE800 has a much more full-bodied sound-signature that can sound a little more "fun" at times, while the K3003i can seem a little "thin" sounding when compared.

Found so far the cheapest price for K3003i in Amazon Italy. 724 Euro. Better price than some used ones in eBay currently.

I have purchased my K3003 2 month ago. That was the best buy ever. Currently I run them with the fiiO X5 and the E12 amp. But the E12DIY is ordered and I'm still waiting  for delivery.

Is it a good upgrade from gr07 mkII?

I'm thinking of buying it second hand or open box if I find a good price http://www.freedom5one.com/sites/default/files/no-money-down_0.jpg

It's on a completely different level.

Not on the same league, sir.

K3003 is very transparent and source-sensitive. Change your source or any part of your audio rig chain and the sound changes as well.  I have been using the K3003 for nearly a year now. It has served me well. I couldn't say that it plays well across all genres but generally, it performs better in terms of realism, imaging and soundstaging. Treble detail and bass texture are superb.

Definitely a step above on a completely new tier... It's one of those upgrades that is not gradual and you will immediately notice where your hard-earned cash went. And yes, they are very transparent yet, for me, doesn't even need an amp and would very much perform on a good standalone DAP. That killer combo of its driving efficiency and impedence is unmatched.

Hey guys I wanted to join this thread because I'm very interested in getting a pair of K3003's.

I've recently acquired the IE800 and it's really impressed me. Doing thing I never thought was possible with IEM's. Am I correct to assume that the K3003 is even more neutral with less bass coloration and more air/treble? If that is the case, that's what I'm looking for. I'm a pretty hardcore neutral head (if there is such a thing).

My other conundrum is that I've been offered a pretty awesome deal on a pair of K3003i's. I really want the non-mic version but I don't want to pay $300+ more for them. What do you guys think? Is the mic that annoying? Should I just pay more for the non-mic version? Is there any sound difference? I know that there technically shouldn't be, but can anyone confirm the mic/non-mic version sounds exactly the same from first hand experience?

Thanks

Cant confirm sound differences but the mic doesnt annoy me.
