Over the last twelve months I've come to realize that above ALL, tonality means more to me and is by far the number one criteria. Tonality, instrument realism, vocal engagement are what keep you interested and coming back for more. And in these categories, the k3k is simply the best in my book. I couldn't be happier I bought it.

Van Halen without tonality renders ALL iem's worthless.

I'm trying to use the medium k3003 stock tips but they're hurting my ears & difficult to regularly get a good seal; my guess is that they're slightly too big.

I'm now using black auvio medium eartips (after trialling the large ones) but I have a preference for clear silicone based on past experience using the ue700 with stock tips vs Sony hybrids.

If the e-q5 medium are slightly smaller than the k3003 medium they may be a good fit for me.

I think that the k3003 are great earphones and suspect that because they look deceptively like an easy fit, some people trialling them are not persevering to find a perfect fit to be rewarded with great sound.

I'm still getting used to being situated on stage next to the vocalist because I expect the soundstage to be in front where I'm a few rows back so I will take a while to adjust. That would suggest that I'm used to being a punter rather than a rocker - part of the band. smily_headphones1.gif

The wide soundstage and reverb is nothing like I've heard before, truly amazing. It reminds of photos of the northern lights/aurora borealis where beautiful colourful rays of light floats from left to right in the sky and vice versa. If I could paint the k3003 soundstage and how sounds of certain instruments float across the stage that is what it would look like.

An illustration of how the k3003 sounds to me:

CREATOR: gd-jpeg v1.0 (using IJG JPEG v62), quality = 90

The cold water and frost represents absolute clarity; the earth and foliage represents great foundation and bass; the stars in the sky are sparkles from the treble and the swirls of northern lights demonstrate instruments floating across the soundstage: beautiful.

I dug through my tip collection and I think I have the ortofon mediums pictured with the large here:

Thank you. Are they ordered from left to right: akg large, orto large, orto medium, akg medium?

The slight variation in sizes may work for me. They all look slightly different in size although it could be the angle of the camera.

My bad. Should've known the k3003 eartips have grey stems so the ones in your photo are all ortofon. Looks good!

I couldn't agree more about tonality. It's by far my number one consideration. Really looking forward to hearing the K3003.

Correct. Large ortofon on the left and medium on the right.

It's spring here in Australia and I'm sure it was him that flew over and did a crap on my collection of entry level and mid tier iems. My k3003 however were left unscathed. smily_headphones1.gif

Do I detect some schadenfroh bird avatars today?

Schadenfreude? Please. Such a lowly human emotion, most unbefitting of the avian species. No. As you can clearly see, as with the 6 million dollar man, we have rebuilt him to be sexier, bolder, and geared his tastes towards brassier women. A clear improvement, all around!
