EDIT: I meant DPST switch For Modified Linkwitz Crossfeed instead of DPDT switch?

Both Tangent and Chu Moy make use of DPDT switches for switching between high and low crossfeed, and switchin between Bypassing the circuit and Enabling the crossfeed.

Why then are ON-OFF-ON DPDTs used? Would SPDTs be better, since we are simply switching between two alternatives - and therefore the "common" position is pointless and unecessary??

Because DPDT switches are much more readily available.

Actually, my question is backwards. I meant:

Why don't we use DPST switches instead of DPDT - meaning, the switch should have just two sets of two prongs, and no "common" area.

Think about it for a sec.
You have two channels and two switchable posistions... high/low perspective and on/bypass
Does a SPDT switch fill this role?
Does a on off on DPDT switch fill this role either?

Why wouldn't it. Obviously I'm not understanding how a switch works, but:

Two channels means to poles. So, therefore a DP switch of some sort has to be used. Now, since we are switching between to alternatives, the ST should work - In position A, the connection would be made with the first alternative, be it low crossfeed for example, and then flipping the switch to ...............

OOOHHHH. I think I get it. I keep forgetting that in each case, the alternative has to connect to the poles that go on to the rest of the circuit. The any ST switch works to simply break the circuit and not switch between two alternatives.

Thanks for making me think through this MisterX!

You got it.
In fact that was the point I should have made to you instead of offering the crappy reply that I did.....and as such I apologize for that.
