Thanks, that member was me, and I still stand by those words.
Before I had the Rega Apollo, I had a Planet2000 (2 in fact, a black and a silver one) and, while it was often said to sound 'analogue' it did so because it had IMO a rolled off treble and diminished dynamics, giving a small sound stage and a 'greyish' sound. Nice, and different from other players, but not outstanding. The Apollo sounded fantastic, very musical albeit not very tonal correct, but extremely musical and therefore enyoable to my ears. The Rega DAC is even better then the Apollo, better bass and very good tonally, matching my former dac, the Audio-GD REF5, while keeping the Apollo's USP, its musicality.
So don't think the DAC will sound like the 2000, it won't, it will be different, and much better.
As for the Stagedac, it is great choice for analytical listeners who value deep bass, lots of detail and a large pinpoint soundstage.
More of my opinion of the Rega DAC can be found in the treat lmf22 mentioned.
