Rega DAC or Meier Audio StageDAC

Thread Starter

Im looking to get a dedicated DAC for me system now that I use the computer as source. Before I had a Rega Planet 2000 which I was happy with. But I also trust Meier Audio alot since he is the maker of the headphone amp I've got.

So is there anyone who has experience of one of the other? Or even better; both?

Thanks!

By the way, sorry for not being much active lately, been doing other things meanwhile :-)

Here's a good comparison of the Rega DAC and StageDAC: http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/536513/arrived-new-rega-dac/105#post_7342557

And two posts down: http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/536513/arrived-new-rega-dac/105#post_7343187

I also used to have the StageDAC and agree with that member's impressions.  Overall, I like the RegaDAC more than the StageDAC.  But keep in mind that the Rega DAC is almost $300 more than the StageDAC.

Thanks, that member was me, and I still stand by those words.

Before I had the Rega Apollo, I had a Planet2000 (2 in fact, a black and a silver one) and, while it was often said to sound 'analogue' it did so because it had IMO a rolled off treble and diminished dynamics, giving a small sound stage and a 'greyish' sound. Nice, and different from other players, but not outstanding. The Apollo sounded fantastic, very musical albeit not very tonal correct, but extremely musical and therefore enyoable to my ears. The Rega DAC is even better then the Apollo, better bass and very good tonally, matching my former dac, the Audio-GD REF5, while keeping the Apollo's USP, its musicality.

So don't think the DAC will sound like the 2000, it won't, it will be different, and much better.

As for the Stagedac, it is great choice for analytical listeners who value deep bass, lots of detail and a large pinpoint soundstage.

More of my opinion of the Rega DAC can be found in the treat lmf22 mentioned.
