Better to spend more on DAC or amp? - Page 2

I dont really know where the KICAS stands in relation to all the other more popular amps that get attention on here, but it seems safe to assume that it's at least decent? So maybe I'll stick with my plan of keeping the KICAS, and getting some DAC like the NFB3/2 which will be able to keep up with whatever amp I decide to upgrade to after a year or so.

The DAC in the PURE i20 is certainly better than the DAC in the iPod, but I'm sure it's a far cry from almost any external DAC, so I'm hoping that something like the NFB2 will provide enough of an upgrade to keep me happy for a year or two (hopefully more!).

So now continues my hunt for the best DAC for the KICAS/HD650 combo for under $500!

If you're not a fan of the DAC in the PURE i20, you could always look into a Wadia 170i (Link: http://www.wadia.com/products/transports/170i/), which outputs bitperfect digital.  You can then use that with a standalone DAC.
