Need to shorten a Portapro

What would be the best way to go about this?  I want the cable to be about 1ft long.

I did some searching, and I think I just purchase a new plug, cut the cable, and solder the wires into the new plug.  Correct?

What would be the best plug to get for this?  I've seen Canare, Switchcraft, and Cryo-parts mentioned.  I want it to be right angle in that makes a difference..

Super super easy. You have the gist of it down. However, you'll need a fairly small cable if you want to wire the cables similar to how the original ones are cabled, or just hanging straight down from the solder joints.

Switchcraft is what I used, the right angled ones.

So, do I also need to get a new cable?

Also, where would be a basic place to order the plugs?  Just somebody who doesn't overcharge for shipping and ships quickly

No need to get whole new cable, just use original.  I would recommend the Neutrik right-angle plugs (they're small and work well).

At the end of the day, consider you'll be paying for shipping, it's a fact of life, going to have to deal with it.  Easiest way is to consider what your time is worth and you'll realize it's simply not worth it to spend your time trying to save $5-$10 in shipping (even if the fact is that you're spending more on shipping than the item is worth).

Thanks,

I ordered the Neutrik on Amazon, with Prime shipping

Wish me luck.. I have some more searching to do so I don't mess this up and make a nasty mess
