Millet Max Grounding issue

Thread Starter

Hey All,

After searching the forums for quite some time to find an answer to my issue I came up blank so here it goes...

I successfully have constructed a millet max and it sounds awesome!  I have a strange issue though that I can't figure out...

When there are no cables plugged into the RCA jacks on the back I have quite a bit of hum, but then as soon as the cables are plugged in, the amp goes absolutely silent, not even a whisper if you crank the gain all the way up.  Granted this isn't really an issue because it doesn't happen unless there is no source connected, I am really interested in finding out what is causing this...

**My Max is enclosed in the regular hammond case with wood front and back panels.  I built the Can't Miss Max #2 http://www.diyforums.org/MAX/MAXboutique.php

Thanks in advance for the help!

Many amps do this (almost every one I have does - including many that are not Millett Hybrids).  It's nothing to be concerned about.  As for the reasons, someone more knowledgeable than me will have to explain it. I suspect it's more because there's no feedback, rather than some grounding issue that's created without a source connection.
