Sennheiser HD 580 Jubilee

Just saw a nice pair of Jubillees on Ebay, the starting bid is $400. I would expect to go past that but are they worth? A collector's item?

Sounds like a lot, I've seen them sell for around $200 in the past. That said they're like a refined HD600, so whether or not they will appreciate on $400 it's impossible to say.

Yeah, people pay 350-400 usd for them, because the were limited (4000 made I think)

Too much money for a 580 I think, but people pay it for that model

IIRC, the HD580 jubilee version are refined HD580's later rebranded as the HD600 with a few cosmetic changes.

I remember reading on this forum that they have closer matched drivers and are tuned slightly differently, that said HD580, HD580 Jubilee and HD600 all sound pretty much the same.

Thanks for the info, if they stay under 500 I might bid on them. I think they will only go up in value due to the special anniversary and box.

They did not sell and the price is now 329$, not a bad deal

Heya,

I have HD580's. They've been my mains for 10 years now. Highly recommended if you want some great open air headphones that are even good as portables if you get an appropriate amp (I use a vivid V1). I wouldn't buy a $300+ pair of HD580's though. You can do a search for mods to do to HD580's since they've been around a long time to tweak sound and you can of course change the skeleton of the headphones cosmetically to match your liking for quite a bit cheaper than buying the limited edition. If you're collecting though, that's different. If just looking for a slightly better version of specifically HD580's, then get them. Otherwise, I'd put that money towards something a bit better.

Very best,

Very best,

This post is good news for me. I've just picked up some HD580s locally on ebay for $140 and am looking forward to listening to them. I do most of my listening out of my PC and have the uDAC-2. I've resurrected my HD540s (I bought them in 1988) and they sound very nice via this combination despite lacking somewhat in the bass department. The seller tells me that the cables are originals and are working well - should I upgrade to the 650 cables or just leave things as is?

Heard the 580 Jubilee for the first time today ~ very short audition yet quite impressed.

A bit brighter across the board to me compared to the HD600 ~ which suits me just fine biggrin.gif

I can see the collector's appeal with these cans..

I wouldn't imagine them to sound any different... are you sure it wasn't the amplification?

Good point, it was coming from a Burson 160 / Burson DAC (580 Jubilee) while I was stationed with a Nuforce HDP concerning HD600 smile.gif
