DIY Headphone Cable Question ~ Shure SE535

I have spent the last 4 hours looking through the various threads and have not come upon a conclusion as to the best wire to use.  I am looking for something that sounds better than the stock cable, and for some fun building my own.

From what I have been reading, it appears that I should be using 24AWG silver cable, then braid it myself.  Is there a place that I should be looking to purchase the cable from?

If 24AWG is too large, what size should I be using?

It appears that I would need to use two MMCX Straight Male Connectors, with a 1/8" phone jack on the end.  What is a little wacky is the MMCX connectors are typically for RF connections, using some type of RG Cable.  Therefore, if I will be using a 4 wire braid where will I be soldering on the negative / ground wire?  Or should I be crimping these connectors?

Also, should I be using the nylon sleeve to prevent damaging the cable?  Will it cause "microphonic" distortion?

My budget is about $50, if this helps.

Again, sorry for this I know this must have been answered millions of times, but I have been searching for hours and just need some help :)
