I have to agree with this, however, it seems how close they are in terms of sound depends on the source I use. The problem is the m50s' sound is usually the better of the two, with my k271s only becoming as good as the m50s.

I have been looking for a closed can that is significantly better than my m50s (seems harder than it first looks.. though I was looking towards Denon), and just saw the Shure 940s, but I sure do love the way these look... it would be really cool if they were a decent upgrade beyond the m50s. I am awaiting a real head-fi review.

That is the Denon model I am referring to, but from reviews and comparisons here, it seems to be showing it's age a bit, kindof like the K701 (not a closed can, but an aging flagship, yes)... The D7000 is certiainly on my short list, but these new closed AKG models, well, I guess we don't know just yet. It would be nice for there to be a few more players in that market.

D7000 is the closest thing I've heard to a top tier M50.  If AKG decides to move in that direction it should be an interesting.  The earpads look damned sweaty to me already though.  Who knows.

Don't get me wrong... but I thought the Denon 2000 - 7000 are only closed to a certain extend? So they bleed... a little.

I really hope not. Nothing but hate for the Denons from here.

But who knows, since H&K is now running things. Might be that they'll just make something that sells, listening to the mainstream consumers and not having the need to actually contribute something to the hobby, which by premise used to be achieving accurate music reproduction instead of, well, making Denon headphones... :)

I've never heard the M50, but if they're close to the D7000s, I really have no interest whatsoever.
