US prices do not include tax, Euro prices include VAT... so deduct 52 Euros from that 270 and you get 218, which is $312.90 by today's exchange.
Add an average US state sales tax of 10% to the US price (or 15% here in Canada), and things begin to make a lot more sense.
Back on track, I am beginning to swoon for a pair. I think that they would compliment my Pro900s very well.
10% is on the high side. At a regular brick and mortar you have to pay state+county+town sales tax but if you buy via the net its tax free as long as that company has no physical operations in the state you tell them to ship to.

Bear in mind the price came from a webpage of a Polish seller than has since been taken offline so not to get too excited. Equally non-confirmed is a late June release as mentioned earlier in the thread.
If these things stay under 400 tax included I might actually bite the bullet and buy them sight unheard. The bad news is usually in Canada release dates for many products come a year later then in the USA. It's not always the case with headphones but for most other electronics it is. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Why isn't this the K750? If the K701 is the top of the heap at $250-300 street price, how is the K550 going to be more?
The design is superb. I really like it. The headband is much nicer than other AKG models.
Maybe I'll get a pair of these, just because I can.
No release date yet?
Nah nothing yet, although earlier in the thread someone suggested a 'late June' release. Here's hoping!
They look like Schwetty pads to me.
You answered your own question. " street price" The K701 was released in 2002, and since then the price has gone up and down and the street price will continue to vary. Additonally, the K702 and Q701 have been released. You can never compare the RRP of a new release product with one that has been around for 9 + years.
Whatever the release price of the K550 is, I will bet that in 9 years time it will be different, even taking inflation into account. That is of course, if it lasts that long.
bump
lets see if we can bring the thread back to life. Anyone know any more news about the K 550
And still nothing?
Hmhmhmhm...
