I treated rather rare headphones and am in the state of decreasing my collection. My experience with popular headphones now is limited, even the 7506 which I will skip.

If anyone can help you, ask Acix. His threads have been very educational. Some people in the DT48-thread also do studio work so there are more sources for information.

P.S. If he has preferences for the vocals, bass, instrument separation, sound stage etcetera they matter since there are many options. If durability and versatility matter the HD25 1-II is a good option. I auditioned one and compared it to my K181 and indirectly to my DT48E-25 and it is impressive. I have too many headphones as it is and one coming so I will postpone buying headphones for a while.

Great comparison Deep Funk. Your description of the cdd900st makes me want to try them one day.....especially the way you say they do voices. The dt48 totally blows me away every time I listen to Sinatra, Norah Jones, John Lennon and other great vocalists. No other phone I've heard can compare with the way they do the midrange. I agree with most of your comments on the DF....a phone which I often enjoy. Unfortunately I find the bass of the dt48 severely lacking....and the highs a bit too rolled off. But the mids.....they're worth every penny of the purchase price plus a lot more just for the way they do the mids.....to quote someone else's comment....."like wiring the mixing desk directly to your brain". They're one set of cans I'll never part with. A two time oscar winning location sound engineer used them exclusively.

CFabian, even if the CD900ST has limits in extension and the presentation of the really deep and wide sound stage; it still surprised me. I am not just talking about the midrange here. Tones and voices...

On a side note: I did not expect the DT48E-25 to have the amounts of bass it has.

That is why I want to modify the DT48E-25. I am a bit busy now but as soon as I have the time... (Almost as if the DT48E is still some kind of prototype.)

Update 19/07-2011: the Pioneer Monitor 10R and Monitor 8 may go.

I hardly use or really appreciate the Pioneers for what they are. I still find myself preferring the DF among others. I shall keep them for now...

How does the df compare with your akg 181?

I wish someone didn't bump this thread, because now I want the DT-48E even more. normal_smile%20.gif

Any know which one would be better for female vocals? I understand it will be preference, but I'm still interested.

I'd like to either get the SRH-940 or DT-48E and compare them to my KRK. I'm assuming the 940 will be a tad more musical perhaps.

I really hope the SRH-940 isn't just a SRH-840 Rev. 2..not that I would mind as long as it's a little more comfortable.

I'd prefer to get whatever is the clearest sounding and most detailed. I'm all for putting my music under the microscope.

The KRK vs DT-48E would be an interesting comparison. I imagine they're totally different though.

BTW in the "Scent of Green Papaya" blu-ray behind the scenes section you can see them using the DT-48e. Found that interesting...usually it's all DT-250s and V6s.

I have a dt48e and shure 940 in front of me right now. The shures are more seamless in their transition from frequency to frequency but the dt48e-25 is faster sounding making pianos more spooky real. The dt48e is a weird beast in that it sounds better to me out of my sansa clip+ than out of the e7/e9 combo while the shures sound better with the dac/amp.

Some features of both here:

-The dt48e has more upper bass than the shures making them richer with acoustic guitars and pianos while the latter extends deeper.

-The dt48e is less aggressive in the low treble making them seem blacker between notes and the upper bass to lower mids are richer on them making them also more forward at the same time.

-The shures are more like a k701 in the low treble brightness without an annoying raucousness in the upper mids.

-The shures signature reminds me of my hd600s in their smoothness of the frequency range except for the obvious difference in bass to treble balance.

The DT-48E and Shure 940 are very, very different. The DT-48E sounds more like a horn speaker while the Shure sounds more like a conventional speaker. The DT-48E upper mids around 3 to 7 khz are on the dark side and the Shure on the bright side. Deep bass impact is good on the Shure, and almost nonexistent on the DT-48E. Comfort on the Shure is very good, but a tough go on the DT-48E. If you want the best, most accurate rundown on the DT-48E, check B&H - the short review by the Canadian guy.

Where can I buy one Eddie?

Just wondering if anyone knows of a refined version of the sennheiser hd201 sound besides the open hd600. Wow if they could make a refined version of these balanced sounding cheap cans it would be awesome.
