Value of Pioneer Amplifier SA-5200?

Thread Starter

Anyone have any experience with this amp? I'm planning on buying one off someone for $40 but I'm not quite sure on how much it's actually worth seeing as it's pretty old and it's not exactly easy finding a concrete price on it.

Is $40 a good deal on it? Also, anyone used one of these? Would it benefit my Sennheiser HD555 hooked up to a PC through onboard sound (motherboard)?

its a pioneer mid 70s lowend budget integrated amp. IMO if its in full operational condition, $40 isnt exhorbitant but $20 is better. afterall its only 10wpc & they dont make it any smaller than that as far as SS amps go.

it should drive your Senn & most other conventional higher Z headphones fairly well IMO. FWIW any amp is better than just off the mobo so u're golden! LOL

No, he's selling one...wink.gif

I have an SA-5800 and matching TX-6800 tuner from 1979 (bought them new). It's a good little amp with sound that leans on the warm side of neutral.

It will drive efficient speakers to decent volume in a small or medium sized room. Plenty of power for headphones and tone controls to trim it to your taste.

My Sennheisers sound a little bit syrupy through it to me, but a leaner sounding headphone would sound better I think. As mentioned above, strictly high-impedance (I would say 250 Ohm +) phones for this vintage. Maybe Beyers?

Theres really no set price for something like that.

It boils down to what someone wants to or is willing to pay.

And of course if a buzz develops the market value will go up until the buzz dies out.
