Top Tier Showdown (Top Pick Announced) - Page 4

It's official, there just NO way I'm going back to the W4's, unamped! The sub-bass is literally that of the IE8 with certain tracks, yet is much better controlled with the W4's with regards to the rest of the spectrum. This amp is working wonders, filling in all the missing/desired "gaps". So if in the end the W4 comes out on top, the Headstage will have found itself a life partner. biggrin.gif

^^ Please keep it all to yourself or else the whole CK10-Is-The-Best-Thing-Since-Sliced-Bread squad will come and tell you off.  :)

tongue.gif Whether they like it or not, I'm simply reporting back whatever it is I'm hearing. I still hold the CK10's and IE8's in very high regards, especially at half the cost of the W4. By the way, I love it when I see your previous collection as per your sig; it's practically what I'm aiming for myself. beerchug.gif

oooo, wait till the ie8 boys hear their soundstage has been beaten by the westones and ck10. deadhorse.gif

Again, very accurate reviews of the ck10 and ie8 I have to say. Sums up my experience for sure.

Nice. Can't wait to hear how they compare with the rest of your collection.

I'm overly excited for tomorrow, when the TF10, UM3x, W3, and SM3 arrive! In all my excitement, I came up with an idea, meant more for the readers than myself in particular; I'd like to test each top tier under every genre, similar to how earphonesolutions (ES) has the Best Earphones by Music Type category. However, I'll be doing this entirely unamped, since I really don't have the time to fool around with all the possible configurations with the Headstage; it's safe to assume, you're experience would only be that much better if you mixed and matched the different settings on the Headstage. All the tracks will of course be FLAC, and I've already gone ahead and pulled different tracks from every genre. They'll be arranged as follows:

Classical, Rock, Hip Hop, Acoustic, Trance, Jazz, and Country.

It's the same way ES has it arranged, simply because that's what inspired me to do this in the first place. Since the CK10's simply amazed me with Pink Floyd, I'm sure I'm bound to find a few pleasant surprises. Not to mention, I intend to keep whiever one comes out on top, and is best fit for my genre, so I won't have such an opportunity again. biggrin.gif

I removed my initial Headstage rant; it was merely taking up needed space and reflects quite the opposite of how I feel now that I've come to learn what the Headstage is capable of. wink.gif

Man, you must have a lot of money. Or at least you did at some stage.  tongue.gif

Glad that I've found this thread. Finally we have a guy who can do the comparison of most top tiers IEMs. I'd love to do that but I don't have the capability to review (plus the money) beyersmile.png

Thanks man! Subscribed!

Hm, it's kind of debatable whether or not it's worth to spend $300 on an amp for an IEM that costs about the same.  But regardless, you could try sending an email to Headstage and ask.  There's no mention on their site whether or not they ship to the UK.  I would assume they do though.

Bloody hell, this has the ingredients for a killer thread.

But i2ehan, go at your own pace mate. And there are ways that your wallet don't get hit too hard

- 14 day returns from different sellers.

- Forget about burn in.

'yes... i'm an audiophile!'

Naa, you're more than an audiphile cool.gif

I suggest you think long and hard - research a bit more - before spending on a portable amp, expensive or not. There's too much hype surrounding portable amps & cables, IMO. I personally owned 2 amps in the past - after reading about them in these forum threads -, one VERY expensive (RSA P-51 Mustang) and very highly regarded. In the end both provided no SQ improvement whatsoever. They only provided amplification, which I didn't need, but no sonic improvements.

It's a different story with full-sized headphones and a good amp can indeed improve SQ. Some of the most experienced Head-fiers, who've spent a fortune on their home rigs, do NOT carry a portable amp with their expensive universal or custom IEMs. I have personally noticed the biggest differences in SQ depend more on which IEM I use and the type of recording/ mastering used. I don't agree that one IEM/ phone is good for this or that particualr type of music. In every music genre you get different quality recordings/ masterings, and those can indeed make a significant difference in SQ.

There's also quite a bit of exaggeration on the almost mandatory use of FLAC/ lossless files, but that's another topic that's been discussed to death in many threads already.

I would have to agree with this, about 90% of IEMs don't need any amplification.  However, if your source's headphone-out has rather awful quality, that could be a different matter, though you could always go for a Clip+ which will probably sound the same to you as the Arrow with the IE8s.  The Clip+ has EQ so you could bump up the treble yourself if you wanted, though keep in mind that the IE8 isn't known for having sparkly highs so it may or may not actually make it sound any better.
