Project Ideas/Thoughts/Help

Hello i am new to site and the headphone world.  I have spent the last month reading about headphone amps after getting serious with headphones with gaming.  I picked up a set of HD555 which I know are not the best but they work for now.  I am wanting to do a little project I recently saw a Millet Max and a Minimax they looked like really cool little DIY amp that I have read good things about it.  But my biggest concern is just about everything you read about the amp is from 2007-2009 I can not find a lot of recent info on either of them.  This leads me to my biggest question is one of these worth building still?  Or is there something better to build?  I am only wanting to spend $200-$250.   I know that is NOT much, just wanting to get my feet on the ground with the headphone amp world.  Thank you anyone for any info you can give me with this do not wanna waste my money/time building something that isn't that great if there is something new out.  Also with any kind of DIY amp is there any way to get one to do Dolby Digital Processing??

THANK YOU EVERYONE

(Sorry for all questions, I hope this is also in the correct amp section)

Thank you for your response, I spent quite a bit of time in the DIY section before posting.  Problem I am having is being as new to this as I am it is a little hard to browse through it all.  I am now looking for a Cmoy kit to start off my little journey.  Do you know of any where to sell a good Cmoy kit?  THANK YOU

Yes, those are very good amps!

DIY projects tend to burn brightly at first, then threads fill up with build information. When the DIY geeks move on to the next big thing, people tend to build from the info in those threads. Usually, the threads cover all possible issues and are comprehensive.

Also, amp technology moves slowly. A good design from ten years ago is still a good design.

If something was wrong with the design, believe me, it would have come out in the threads and a problem would have been found. So the relative silence is a good thing. It means that the people who built those amps a few years back aren't having any problems with them.

Go and build one. smily_headphones1.gif

Thank you both for your great advice.  I have been browsing the sites heavily for all the info I can take in.  My biggest thing is I am wanting to use them for Music but also main purpose is gaming. I am looking at the kit from Beezar just trying to find more about the Amps and differences between the Millet Mini and Max.  I have read the Mini is 1" smaller but with being my first amp I would rather have that extra 1" hahaha.... I was going to post in the classified to maybe try and buy my first one but can't 15 post limit confused_face%281%29.gif   Hopefully guys I will be getting my parts ordered soon and will start the build.   Any more info anyone can give me please let me know.  Thank you again for the advice.

Try looking under the for sale listing's and see if You find one there. I know some one else had this problem due to a less than 15 posting, I can not remember how they were told how to approach it. Find one for sale and send a PM to the seller and take it from there. Do You have PayPal?

Sorry for the huge delay in getting back on here. Yes I do have PayPal.

I am just going to ask for a small amount of guidance since there is so much knowledge on this site. I have spent quite a bit of time doing research on this site and others.  I am using a set of Sennheiser HD-555 these are just a start for me.  My question is I am wanting to use this AMP for gaming and music.  I have read a lot about Tubes vs Solid State but I can't find much about people using amps for gaming.  Question do you think one would be better then the other for Gaming?   I am wanting to do a DIY amp build.  I have read so much about the Millet and the CKlll.  And a few others like I said I am wanting to do a little DIY project this will be my first one but I have an electronic background but I want to make sure I start with the correct first project.  Between the Millet (haven't decided on Max Or MiniMax) and the CKlll would you all have any input that might help with my decision.  I also do not want to completely overkill with the AMP but I do want to build for the future also somewhat.  THANK YOU for any info you can give.
