Which of these headphones are better for vocal and instrumental jazz and why? I have the HD800 and love them for jazz, but would like to know how the HE-6 compares.

Thanks in advance.

Do you know that Chinese workers are paid 1/10 of Americans? or even less. IMO HE-6 is 5 times as the maximum price as it should be. You already have the best, carefully make you choice.

I'd consider the LCD2 over the HE6 for Jazz.  The HE6 is too electrostatic like for my tastes in an Ortho.  I was all set to get the LCD2 or HE6 until I heard both and the HD800 w/ the right amp.  My HD800 arrives in a few days.

Holy cow, Anaxilus nice one.  What amp was this?

The WA5 and the new Eddie Current prototype.  Both were sublime w/ the HD800 and that was an overwhelming consensus at the Venice meet.  I'm honestly not quite sure which way to go as they are both completely different animals and will basically send me down different paths.  Got a lot of thinking to do and waiting for Craig to finish the production model.

It doesn't quite work like that, Also build quality on Chinese built products is much more shoddy and that can reflect in the sound also.

I would prefer to pay more for goods then have to have cheap labour constructed products.

It's an interesting point.  The profit margins must be much higher with the HE6.  Much cheaper manufacturing costs and they sell them direct from their website, whereas Sennheiser looses substantial portions of profits to retailers.

I'm listening to the HD800 via the Zana Deux at the moment and for jazz this combo is sublime -- I imagine the EC prototype would be even better given the enthusiasm from those who have heard it at meets. Really enjoyed the LCD-2s for this musical genre also, though never heard them with my current amp -- their gorgeous tone and deep stable bass suited my classic jazz, especially vocals, very well indeed. At this level, personal taste and ergonomics etc may be the decider.

best,

Look what cheap labor and short cut do to Denon holding Corp ( aka, Denon / Marantz) products. The made in China stamp of approval won't cut the mustard. I know some local installer won't deal with their Denon's products due to failure by design.

My dealer friendly refused to sell me his hi-cost Marantz CDP and I know he did not want to loose my repeat business.

I personally had to return a Denon 3910 AVRs  2 times, So much for we the people of RPC pride of ownership.

I still have to mention the comfort of the HD-800's, besides the build quality and last but not least THE SOUND is perfect for my system and what my ears like.....But remember to each their own......

they call china a communist country:extremely wrong.
china is the modern eden capitalist garden to explore slave labour and to burn their natural resources cheaperly.
not everything made in china today is made with poor materials, the most is,but i dont thing is the case of hifiman products.
but the most mistaken opinion is the poor quality manufacturing labour, there is no connection between the wages and the quality of labour, immigrants, for example works better for less money.
but i would prefer to buy the german products anyway, and i dont thing a 1200 dollars headphone like the hd800 should have a principal genre to play with, even my television with no signal should seems like music for a so much expensive headphone,i hope one day i can afford them.

The way of development of world economy today is precisely show who are gonna to be a new chief. As concerning  HD800vsHE6 to my mind the first headphone sounds like thinking of music and the second like music of thinking.
