KRK Rokit 5's G2 Comparison?

Hi guys, I'm looking to purchase a pair of KRK Rokit 5's G2 for bedroom djing/casual listening. I've recently auditioned them and was blown away, but i do understand that they were connected to various dacs/amps. Would you guys recommend a pair of these speakers as compared to say, the Mackie MR5's or the Audioengine A5's? My budget is around + - the price of the KRK Rokit 5's. I listen mostly to trance, house, electro, some hiphop / top 40.

I've searched on the forums and some people say that the KRK Rokit 5's are abit lacking in bass? which does concern me.

Also, if i was to purchase a pair of KRK Rokit 5's i understand that connecting them via unbalanced RCA to my mixer wouldnt make much of a difference to the sound quality as the distance is short and is in my bedroom only, or am i wrong?

If i also wanted to connect the KRK Rokit 5's to say my laptop directly / mp3 (which most probably is using 3.5mm), how would i go about doing so? As there will be times i just want to use the Rokit 5's as just speakers when im not mixing.

The KRK Rokit 5's G2 has RCA unbalanced, TRS balanced and XLS balanced inputs.

Overall would it be a good buy?

Thanks for your help! Much appreciated!

Go for it.  I personally prefer the more balanced and neutral-like presentation of the MR5, but KRKs are real nice, too.

I think you should go balanced when possible.

To hook up your speakers to your laptop, you will need a pair of RCA interconnects and an RCA-to-3.5mm splitter.  A 3.5mm-to-dual-RCA Y cable will probably be too short on the RCA ends unless you want the speakers up against each other beside your laptop.

Mad Max: So i assume that at any time, both my speakers would be connected via 2 wires, 1 unbalanced to my laptop via RCA, and 1 balanced to my mixer via TRS/XLR? I will check out the RCA interconnects!

holychau: Nope, will take a look! Thanks

i got krk rp5 g2's and think they are great for the money.  I listened to side by side adam a7's, fostex 0.5n, krks, and some other brand i cant remember the name (canadian company brand).  These were hooked up to an apogee duet using trs cables.  The adams sounded very flat which is great if your mixing and mastering. Fostex were amazing i suggest you look into these ones.  The only reason i didnt buy fostex was because i didnt know the name and thought they might not last as long...  The krk's had more coloration on the bass and sounded kinda muddy in comparence.  if your serious about mixing and mastering tracks then i would look at the adams and pad your room :)  What are you going to use for interface?
