So am I right that you will have to pony up for the Immersion sets in order to get the BD's?

Right now it would appear that way.  Not sure if there are plans to release the blu-rays separately, but I'll gladly fork over my cash for the immersion sets.  The DSOTM immersion set will include a '72 unreleased Alan Parsons early mix of DSOTM.  The coveted quad mixes of WYWH is also worth the price of admission IMO.  Just a couple of examples, a lot will be offered, so I'll be saving my money.  :)

Also, from the EMI site "The long-awaited 5.1 version of ‘Wish You Were Here’, mixed by James Guthrie, will also be released in parallel via independent label Acoustic Sounds."  which means we should also get a separate SACD Wish You Were Here release!  A great time to be a Pink Floyd fan.

The only thing stopping me from ordering at least the Experience sets is the quality of the remastering (see loudness war).

Have you heard them?

Release date is my wife's birthday.  I wonder if she would be suspicious if I bought this for her knowing it's really for me.evil_smiley.gif  I think all of these would make a great Christmas present for me along with the LCD-2's I'm getting.

Really?  The Doug Sax remasters sound fantastic to me!  If the upcoming re-issue masterings are just as good or better I'd be plenty happy. o2smile.gif

I'll reserve judgment on sound quality until I have the actual discs in hand. ;)

This way of repackaging Floyd seems to be sort of annoying. The Discovery versions are just remasters of the original albums, which may be a good thing (if the remasters are good), but then the Experience versions (which would seem to be good for a "fan") only have live tracks as a bonus. Any fan - even a fairly casual one - is going to want the extra material on the Immersion set.

For example, the Alan Parsons Quadrophonic mix of DSotM, which has general interest, is only on a boxed set that is going to cost you $130.Then there's the fact that the Immersion set for The Wall is going to have the Is Anybody Out There? live set on it ... which surely any PF fan already has. I feel that the likelihood is that these sets are going to be a horrendous rip-off ... that most fans are going to be forced to fall for ...

I'd just like to have DSOTM, Wish You Were Here, and Animals remastered on CD... period. The ones currently out were remastered in the early '90s I think... when digital was still basically in it's infancy... and not all that stellar. Those 3 albums are worthy of remastering with current high quality equipment. The Wall?... meh... not so much.

I never quite know how to respond to stuff like this.  I agree that it would be nice to be able to buy the immersion stuff piece meal...but what's worth doing is worth doing for money.  EMI has surely done their economic analysis and determined that they can make more money doing it this way.  Is that wrong?  Not sure...but I wager that if they can't make money doing it, a lot of this stuff just isn't available.  I for one am glad that it's available, and will pony up the $$ for the immersion set with little or no grumbling.

I would have thought the announcement of these releases would warrant more enthusiasm from music fans on this forum.  Oh well.

Same here, I just want better quality remasters of the studio releases (*with* The Wall). Thanks for the bump, BF.
