Using the SPL Auditor as a Preamp?

Hello!

I currently have a Saffire 24DSP with an SPL Auditor, it is connected via the Auditor's XLR inputs to the Saffire TRS outputs.

I'm about to purchase a balanced DNA Sonett. the thing is, it only has rca inputs.

Would it be possible to connect the Auditor to the saffire using XLR inputs to TRS outputs and connect the Sonett to the Auditor's XLR outputs and into the Sonett's rca inputs using an XLR-rca cable?

and use the Auditor as a Preamp? Is that possible and worthy?

Thank you very much, it's really important as i'm about to purchase a sonett and that's basicly what's holding me back..
