A couple thoughts.

1) You can't expect instant responses on this forum.

2) Regardless of what people here tell you and how true each thing said may be for them, it's your ears, head, tastes, etc., and you may wind up disappointed or elated having nothing to do with any recommendations.

OK... now that I went there...

Having owned both, here's my take.

I could not wear the SRH840 for more than a couple minutes as they are big, heavy and the headband is not very well padded. They actually hurt the top of my head. That was the main negative, maybe the only real strong negative. (Others have had the same response... an entire thread was dedicated to modding the headband)

Otherwise the 840 isolated well, had a relatively neutral sound and were easy to drive. I like the removable and extra cable. I think they are more neutral than the M50 and more of a true 'studio' can. They don't have the bass impact of the M50.

They don't have the 'fun' sound signature of the M50, but they are a bit more open and less muddy.

I've had the M50 for quite a while and think they are great. I happen to really appreciate the U shapped sound signature... even at the expense of the mids (which are recessed slightly). They are very easy to drive. They are very comfortable on my head, fold well and fit easily into their little carry bag. Great all-rounders!

Good luck.

That's an abrupt turn of events, what convinced you to redecide from your choice last night (your post yesterday) aiming to get M50s?

xhowevermany on the 840's. There not boring at all unless ur listening to 64kbs mp3's then they can get anoying. I'd def. throw in a small amp with them though like a cmoy or e3/5.

if you pair it with decent amp like corda XXS it will be even better. JDSlabs cmoy s good for srh840 too
