Introduce me to Gospel

Thread Starter

I've always been a huge fan of soulful music. Mo-town, soul, some strands of R&B, and every now and again I come across a little bit of Gospel music that really catches my ear. I'll list some of the similar music I like (excuse the youtube quality), and then I'd appreciate some recommendations based on my preferences.

Thanks!

The Blind Boys of Alabama, maybe?  They've got about a billion albums from the 50's or 60's up to now and they've done a little bit of everything.

…judging from the OP's clips, maybe start from modern gospel and move backward? Stuff like Fred Hammond, Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams or Kim Burrell…that's much more about spiritual-based funk than traditional gospel like Mahalia, Marion Williams, Sam Cooke and Soul Stirrers or the Golden Gate Quartet. Hope this helps…
