My dumb question of the day-where do you get your music? - Page 2

Itunes. Went away from it when it was 128K default bitrate, but the change to 256K AAC is a major improvement for the music I listen to. Other than that, I copy the WAV files straight off any CD I buy, import them in to iTunes and convert to ALAC. Easy-peasy, even at the rate of almost a GB per album for all those WAV files, its cheap.

I buy CDs, mail order, brick and mortar stores, thrift stores, used record stores, etc.  I rip with dbPowerAmp.  I've also downloaded free tracks from Amazon and iTunes.  I've bought a few Frank Zappa iTunes only albums including one just 15 minutes ago.  http://zappa.com/whatsnew/

I've used the library, but most of the CDs are in terrible shape.  I mainly have used it to explore new genres.  Someone in the past donated a lot of money to our library to buy a large collection of opera.  When I first got into opera, it was a great resource for determining what I like and don't like.

I used to worry about scratched CD's all the time but a good ripping program can take care of most CD's and transfer the digital info without a problem.

I forget to mention that using a CD polisher can quickly get CD's back into shape.

I'm actually thinking of selling my large CD collection but not sure what venue is the best or if it's worth the hassle.

I'm new to this whole head-fi thing, so I'm wondering where you guys get the music you listen to?  I know some people use cd players and stuff, but for you computer people, what do you do?  I've been using Itunes, but that doesn't seem to get a very good rep around here...If you burn cd's, what program do you use?  If you download it, from where?  And if you do something totally different...what?

Thanks for your help,

Bryan
