Any recommendations for current Metal Bands?

I haven't listed to any Metal music for a very long time. My first concert ever was Iron Maiden (Number of the Beast Tour) opening for Judas Priest (Screaming for Vengeance Tour). I love 70's and 80's metal (Sabbath,Queensryche, Dio, Maiden, Priest ect...) but I am TOTALLY out of touch now. I couldn't even name a band. I miss that music now but I have no idea as to where to even start looking for some new music.

 

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Hey, autarch.

 

I, too, am a massive Maiden fan, but I don't really listen to them much these days. I tend to gravitate towards more current stuff. If you're after that NWOBHM feel, i.e. catchy progressions, powerful melodies and harmonized leads, Pharaoh and their album 'Be Gone' has some pretty awesome stuff on it; great singer, too.

 

Also, check out a band called Evergrey, particularly their album 'In Search of Truth'; it houses some seriously catchy and emotionally-driven music; extremely classy.

Yngwie Malmsteen. This kind of metal needs no vocalist.

Some good metal albums released in the 2000's. Be warned that they are very different from the Sabbath,Queensryche, Dio, Maiden and Priest you are used to. But they are not too inaccessible and you should be able to enjoy them.

Kamelot is really good. I love the Ghost Opera track. The impact from the drums is an amazing benchmark for a lot of cans!

If you want a blast from the past (an old NWOBHM legend actually) but that only lately got on a label, check out Hell. They are awesome! Plus they are funny as hell (no pun intended) with their theateric approach, kinda like King Diamond I think.

The new Devil Driver album Beast is cool.

 

Enslaved has really come out with a couple great albums Isa, Vertebrae, Ruun.

 

Primal Fear has a wonderful album called Seven Seals.
