I often have an issue when ripping CDs, most recently with two brand new ones that I have only taken out of the sleeve to rip. The CD will play perfectly fine in any CD player, even in the laptop that I use to rip. However, I sometimes get errors when trying to rip, in rare cases rendering the track completely unplayable even though the track plays just fine. I usually use EAC, sometimes iTunes. I've tried playing with the settings on both pieces of software. I seem to get the best results by disabling C2 error correction in EAC. However, even with C2 disabled, there still can be audible clicks and pops on the ripped track that do not occur when simply playing the track. Any ideas on how to fix this? I have a hunch that the CD drive in my 5-year-old laptop is simply on its way out (it's super noisy and hot, not that it ever used to be silent and cool), but I don't know how to test this. Thanks

Well, try ripping from someone else's computer? If it rips fine on their computer, then you narrow it down to only a few options.
