IPOD Touch 1st Gen ... Worth Upgrading to the latest IPOD Touch?

I'm just wondering if it would be worth upgrading to the latest Ipod Touch as I have recently upgrading all my other "personal audio" products ... SM3's and E7 to name a few.

My current mp3 player is the original Ipod Touch 16 gig.

Would the latest Ipod Touch have significant improvements sound quality wise.  The face time camera stuff doesn't really factor in for me.

Any suggestions/recommendations/thoughts greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

From reading comments I think the iPod 1G is is supposed to have the worse sound of all the touches. The 2G sounds much better IMO, and I've heard the 4g is better again. The 2G I have is a very clean sound not as warm as the sony or clip I have. I think its good though.

Thanks for the input.  I have now realised my current Ipod 1G is dying so i'll have to replace it anyways.  IPOD 4G here I come.

Touch 4G sounds very good...and I recommend the Equalizer app if you're interested in a fully customizable 7-band parametric EQ.L3000.gif

Slightly off topic, but is the FLAC player app any good? I would really prefer to use the default player for my music, which is the best codec to convert my FLAC music to?

If you must have lossless on your player, then convert your FLAC to ALAC(apple lossless). Me, I use LAME V0 MP3 (or 320kbps if I've acquired it that way)on my portables.

I think you could always find a latest iTouch from your friends, apple store, or anywhere else. Try it with your favorite headphones and music (if possible) and decide if you need an upgrade.

Unfortunately the decision has been decided for me as my current IPOD gen1 has crapped itself, time to upgrade now.k701smile.gif

Bigbuddha, I hope you can come back and give us a few impressions after listening to your new Touch for a week or so - I suspect that you are in for a really pleasant surprise. There are still a few zealots here who dont want to know about anything newer than the 5.5G iPod, when Apple ditched their beloved Wolfson DAC, but for the rest of us the current generation of iDevices really have their act together sonically.
