New iPod Classic? or repair old 5.5 iPod

Thread Starter

I have an 80GB iPod 5.5 that I bought new and have cared for extremely well (still looks new). The HD is making lots of interesting noises and presumably about to die. I've replaced the battery in this device 3 months ago, so replacing the HD isn't a hurdle... just wonder if its really worth it?

People seem to think this older model "sounds better"

After some research, I see mention of an 240GB upgrade kit from Apricorn, however their website doesn't seem to mention anything about this kit, any suggestions?

Edit: scratch the 240GB upgrade, I found the Toshiba PN# (MK2431GAH)... its just too expensive!

Thanks

There are a few options u have.
i)a new HDD. I was searching for one, when my Classic's hdd died, and found a Samsung 160gb at 80USD on ebay.
ii)go the CF card + CF adapter way.usualy an Hdd would be cheaper, a 32gb CF would cost more than a 160gb hdd.
iii)go for a Cowon or a Fuze with inbuilt MicroSD slots, that gives u virtually unlimited storage.
Cowon: when u don't want a line out.
Fuze: when u want a line out.
