HRT Music Streamer II ... any alternatives - or do more expensive DACs sound that better ?

Was reading a lot's of good reviews on the HRT Music Streamer II and it seems to be a very good unit for the price. But are there any alternatives to it - preferably in the 100 - 250 (could stretch to maybe 500)  Euro price range ?

Want to use it mostly as an USB-Dac straight into my headphone amp or active monitors.

After doing some research I came also  to the Firestone Fubar 2 and maybe the Hegel DAC, how are these DACs compared to the HRT ?

To do better for budget prices, you have to be willing to purchase from China like Audio GD.

I had the HRT Music Streamer II and I liked it so much I upgraded to HRT Music Streamer II+.

It really also has to do with your system synergy and your preference in sound.  I like the HRT Music Streamer because they sound more lively, musical and warm.

There are better Dacs but many are bright, clinical and dry.  I would just upgrade to the HRT Music II+ for more improved and refined sound that is already good.

The most affordable option is like I said, Audio GD NFB-3.  It's a little more refined, detailed while still be warm and musical.  But it's still not as warm and musical as the HRT in my opinion.

The MSII (not +) is not musical or warm - but it produces a very nice clean sound.

Take a look at the yulong d100 and the hlly smk-iii, they both have excellent reviews.

Personally I would go with the hlly smk-iii as it is cheaper and sounds just as good but it is missing a few features that the d100 has.

Thanks very much for your help so far ! One thing I really like about the MSII is, that it is one of the very few budget DACs not made in China biggrin.gif

I will take a closer look at the hlly smk-iii and the yulong even though. What about Firestone - also sounds interesting to me !

It would be nice to see a comparison between the Spitfire w/ Supplier DPS, HLLY SMKIII, and MSII+.
