Hi there
I have just come across my first idler drive TT in the form of a Dual 1229Q.
The table is in excellent cosmetic condition and still has the original plinth, dust cover and box.
However, something is not quite right with the 'table.
The platter is sitting on the main turntable bed and doesn't spin. My gut is that the bearing is missing, or something that is responsible for holding the platter above the bed. Also, the motor is spinning all the time, whether the arm is over the table or on its rest. I have thought about sending it off to someone knowledgable such as the guys at fixmydual.com, but as an inveterate tinkerer, I would really like to get it working myself such that I understand how it all works!
I have some photos here of everything that is in the box:
The platter with strobe timing disc still on the underside:
The main bed in the plinth:
The other stuff in the box - 33.3 spindle and stacker:
The underside of the table:
The hole where the spindle sits:
When the spindle is inserted in the above hole, it fits nicely and feels properly greased, however, once the platter is placed on top, it sits directly on the turntable bed and has led to the circular scratches you can see on the main bed outside the large central depression.
I've tried looking for other photos on the web of what this should look like, and also looked for an alleged Youtube video showing platter removal, but couldn't come up with anything useful
I would be very grateful for any pointers from anyone who has one as to whether I am missing a bearing, or something else which holds the platter up?
Thanks in advance!
