In my pursuit to get a set of headphones to blow my mind with metal I have devised a short list.

I own Alessandro Ms2i Amazing phones but too fatiguing after a while.

Question is which do you guys think would blow my mind most.

I like big bass but not sacrificing detail and instrument separation.

My choices are

Grado - RS1i -  The obvious upgrade

Grado GS1000 - Superb reviews from what i read

Denon AH-D7000 - All rounder and tremendous bass and treble.

Alessandro MSPRO - Logically the wise choice as i own the Ms2i

AKG Q701- REASON for this shock choice is quincy jones produced thriller and thats pretty PRAT so guessing must be good for rock - or am i wrong.

Audeze LCD-2 - problem is nowhere stocks them in UK.

HIFIMAN -HE-5LE - Not heard much about them but from what little I have people say they are immense.

Beyer Tesla T1. - What hifi said they are awesome sounding headphone and have good bass apparently.

What do you guys thinks - Want something which i will treasure and which makes my hifi less used :)

Need your help and thoughts

Another question is would a dedicated head amp make a bigger difference than using my speaker amp to drive my phones??

anyone??? I thought this was the best forum for advice?

A lot of those are sort of galvanizing cans.  From what I've heard, the LCD-2s do metal great, if you don't like sharp treble; if you do like more bite in the highs, the HE-5LEs would, I think, do metal equally well - both cans just focus their sonic signature in different areas.  The K702 (and I'm guessing the Q701 isn't that much different) were just too neutral, flat, and lacking any sort of impact to make them good for any music that I consider dynamic - all types of metal being included there.

The Audeze's have really made an impression on this forum. But there is no ditributor to get them in the UK unless someone knows different

I was looking at the Denon AH-D7000 can be had for £600 here in the UK. CNET gave them a fab review and said they were the best closed phones on the market.

Hm.  "Best closed" is a big set of shoes to fill.  From what I've read about them, they're far from the FR reference the LCD-2 and HE-5LE producel; heavy on the bass and light on the mids, and I think metal is a genre that really benefits from filled-out mids.

Does Audez'e not ship to the UK, if the purchase is directly through them?

AFAIK, the LCD-2 have just recently been sent out to distributors.

If you buy directly from Audez'e, they ship internationally.  On their website, they quote $54 to $150 for shipping, depending on the country.

If you decide to go with the rs1's then I probably would recommend picking up an amp,

Actually, the SR & RS series of Grados are known to sound great without an amp and to not change much, if at all, with one.

IIRC, only the GS & PS 1000s are picky with regards to amplification.
