I just won an auction on the 'Bay for a pair of these lovelies.

The truth is, I probably can't afford to buy them but what the hell? I'm just waiting for my back pay to go into bank (any day now) and they will be mine.

I did quite a lot of searching and reading on here and believe they will be a valuable addition to my system. There is a spare integrated amp (Exposure X) sat in the corner that I can press into service to drive them with. There is also a possibility that my Sugden my drive them so we shall see

I've also got my eye on a pair of MDR-F1s too. The madness never ends.

the only probelm is that one must listen to the K1000 in total silence.

Ooooooh! K1000's with tubed monoblocks = tubey goodness.

Congrats Mick. Hope you like 'em. They are truly a unique experience.

i have this plan to use (4) 12" woofers in a sub woofer tower configuration. the middle two are front to front (isobarik), the outside two are outside (face front) ported. acoustic suspension in the middle, ported on the outside. 1/4 the size of a ported enclosure (which is typically 2.5 cuic feet). crossed over at 50 Hz. 3' x 16". two 4" x 6" ports in the bottom, one 6" x 8" port on top. 2" MDF dense particle board (from kitchen counter top outlet). about $250.

the carpet will roll.

otherwise you can have (4) 12" woofers in an acoustic suspension. two inside. one on top, one on the bottom.

Congratulations, Mick.......those babies cured me of the disease. Haven't bought, or had the urge to buy, any headphones since, except for the Senn PX-200 for $30.
As for the Sugden driving them, I didn't feel it did a very good job. Volume was there, but the sound was thin.......in comparison to the RKV. Maybe your source and ICs will yield better results.
Anyway.......enjoy!

Hey Joe... (Good words for a song those )

I did read somewhere that the Sugden could be used but i'm a little sceptical. I supect that like most preamps it is best at voltage gain rather than providing the wattage needed.

Luckily I have a number of options open to me. I can press one of my spare Rotel RB970s into action purely for driving these. I can add my Exposure X into the system solely as a power amp or perhaps even drive them with my Tube Monoblocks. I rather think the tube monoblocks will do a sterling job in this regard but it will be a bit of pain swapping them over from speakers to 'phones and back again.

Anyway, we shall see what happens.

Will it stop the upgradeitis? Somehow, I don't think the madness will ever end

Would be interested to hear how you get on with the Exposure pairing as my Naim Nait 2 pairing was not so good as it sounded bright, slightly nasal & lacked bass impact. It was very detailed though.

Hi. It would be nice to compare the K1000's to F1's.

The K1000's require a carefully chosen system built around them. They have a tendency to sound bright, so components which balance this characteristic out will sound best. You can't skimp. Although the cans themselves are relatively inexpensive, the overall system (incl. source, amp, IC's) may not be. FYI.

Your not done yet. Don't forget the aftermarket cables! You have to pay to play

Sorry Marios,

Yes they are the ones that I got for £275.00 on eBay UK. I wonder what deal you had on them? Cheaper? Hehehehe

I'll be sure to let you know when they arrive. I'll probably just post some first impressions and some images initially and then do some A/B with my Stax Lambda's / HD600s and compare with different amps.

Initially I was also gonna get some F1s but due to some cashflow issues i've had to pass on them and am going solely for the K1000s.

Sorry to dissapoint you. I may still get some F1s at a later date though, i'm not totally discounting them as yet.

I hear you on that one. I had to spend nearly £1000 on cables and mains filtering with Krell to really make it shine but boy does it shine now

Initially i'll play with the stock cables on the K1000 to get a feel for it's out-of-the-box sound and then I guess i'll probably make up some of my own cables for it. I have some Bi-Wire QED Silver 12 cables that are only being used singley at the moment so they might make a good candidate for aftermarket cables

Jpelg,

I'll be running it from the following:

Krell MD10 / Studio DAC (Slightly bright sounding but extremely detailed and very dynamic/tight sounding)

Audiolab 8000Q (as neutral a Pre-amp as any. Has no sonic character whatsoever)

Tube Technology Genesis Monoblocks (Gold Aero EL34 tubes provide a smooth tube sound but they are relatively well balanced and don't sound too warm. They provide plenty of slam and authority, almost like a SS amplifier but not quite so harsh.)

I'm confident that they will fit in will with the system. I will have to see what happens. They were posted out late Wednesday afternoon and should be with me today I think.
