DAC or converter?

Thread Starter

I need a device that lets me send signals from the PC via USB to a receiver and MiniDisc recorder, both with digital inputs.  I don't need it to put out an analog signal at all; the equipment further down the chain will handle that.

Will something like the Firestone Bravo or MF V-Link will fit the bill, or am I reading things incorrectly?

(Sorry if this is redundant, but it's actually kind of hard to search for something using those keywords)

You're probably likely to find the best info on what you are looking for ("usb transports") in the computer audio sub-forum.

To get you started, you might take a look at: http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/539197/how-to-play-24bit-192khz-flac-using-usb-to-dac

I can also happily endorse the BCT usb "thingee" that I'm using in my own rig (see http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/229110/blue-circle-usb-thingee).  But admittedly, this is old tech (although well implemented), that I picked up used from the head-fi classifieds.  If I were paying msrp, I'd make sure to get something that supports 24bit/192khz.  FWIW - I'd also stay away from the HiFace products due to the clock controversy and reviews finding that the BCT sounds better despite its age.

Hope this helps!

What you're looking for is a USB to S/PDIF converter, if that's any help. They cost anything from $30 for something on eBay up to $10,000 for audiophile stuff. smily_headphones1.gif
