I need your opinion for my new player...

My Clip+ broke and I don't want to ever get one ever again. Seriously, that day is over. I found a buyer on ebay who I can get either a 5.0 or 5.5 gen ipod from (as far as I know there is no difference in sound quality). How good is the sound? Is the frequency response any good? I looked it up and the bass rolloff seems fairly huge.

I am using a PA2V2 and Ultrasone Pro 900 with it. Will having the PA2V2 make a huge difference in the frequency response or solve the bass rolloff issue?

Oh, and I plan on Rockboxing the iPod for the sake of having a custom EQ and crossfeed! :)

Thoughts?

The 5 ipod is popular but so old, better to get an ipod touch 4G with EQu or Equalizer app.

Why? Isn't the DAC in the 5.0 and 5.5 gen better? Also, I looked at the Itouch's and they cost a ton of money because you can go online and stuff. I don't care for any of that. I also hate having bloated Apple software on my computer.

The question over cirrus vs wolfson DACs is fairly moot at this stage. The debate is largely over at this point.

I have a rockboxed ipod 5 and a touch 4g. Rockbox is good, but a pain to use imho, which why I suggested ipod touch 4G with EQu or Equalizer apps.

There is a certain warmth to the 5g for sure. Which can be created using apps anyway.I really found my ibasso T3/LOD was needed to get the most out of my 5G.

The technology of ipods has been improved upon, which I guess is another reason there is no imodding of more recent models.

Don`t like apple itunes software, use media monkey or some other alternative.

Don`t want to go online?, Just music?, get a cowon j3 or X7.

Oh, and you`re welcome.
