Actually, I don't know why I typed that. I think I only prefer the HD598's soundstage and midrange.

The HD598 is a really good phone but I don't like the veil (or graininess as one may say). I like super clear and more transparent type of sound. That's why I feel the denon d2000 was better for me. I sold my hd598 and keep the denon. It's pretty hard to find a phone with good bass, wide soundstage, and has neutral to forward mids that are very clear.
The thing is I can eq the denon d2000 mids to be more forward and clear. Just eqing 2.5khz wide up 2-3db. The bass can be tightened up by eqing 0.25khz wide down 2-3db.
Where on earth is a D7000 only $550?
X2
Well, when I posted this it could often be found for around this price. Electronics-Expo often had it for that price. Not bad for a headphone that retails at what..$999?
hmmmm ... I might just do that too. I think it's not a stretch to say that in about 3 months my entire headphone system will be changed from ground up (new amp, dac, plus headphones.
I have had my Denon 2000 for 2 years and really liike it..tremendous bass and clear treble, but the recessed midrange...not good for vocals...always bugged me a bit. I just did the Hans (see his thread) mod last night and the improvement is very significant (I removed the cups and the center paper cover off the driver)...more fleshed out midrange, bigger soundstage...same goo treble I may not keep shopping for an "upgrade" at all.
