JMoney Ear Pads, poor build quality, worst customer service. Must Read! *** Pictures ***

I got my D7000 ear pads from J$ yesterday. The wait was about two weeks from placing order to in my hands, but I did pay extra for fast ship. I have to say that I am not completely happy with the build quality of ONE of the ear pads. The leather is all bunched up and the pad is not as firm as the other one. Inside the ear pad was a bit faded in color. I like that it's a bit ticker so the headphones now fits better. But just the build quality of ONE is not what is shown on the web site. I've contacted J$ about this issue, no reply yet.

See the pictures.  Noticed the difference?  Am I wrong to expect better for almost $100?

- Day THREE, no response from JMoney

-Day four: Response from JMoney.

"Thanks for your email. As each of my pads are handmade, you are going to see differences
between each and every pad. By looking at the photos, you are simply seeing the natural
folds of the particular piece of leather. Each piece of leather is stamped out to look like
one another but because leather is actually the skin of an animal, parts will be thicker
and will form around the memory foam in a different way.

Hope that explains everything. If you really wish to have the pad exchanged, I am happy
to do so; however, you would have to pay the shipping costs".

thanks and best regards

Jeremy

-My reply email:

Jeremy,

I understand that leather is not perfect, but
the craftsmanship of the pads should be consistent. The one pad I received clearly is not like ones shown on your web site and the other pad you sent me. Asking me to pay additional shipping to exchange what should not have been sent to me is not reasonable.

I want to continue to recommend your products to other headphones
audiophiles, but i can't if JMoney wouldn't stand behind their products.
I look forward to your final decision.

Final outcome on the 6th day:

Well, it's been two days since I replied to JMoney's email asking for his final decision. No response yet. IMO, he should reply to his customers more promptly specially when the email has a subject line of "problem with my order". I am considering this purchase as a loss. I hope that others who are thinking of buying from JMoney will see this thread and seriously think about who they are dealing with.

**** update/resolution ****

After a few emails (long in between), JMoney would exchange it if I send BOTH pads back to him. I pay shipping on IN and he pays shipping on the OUT. I asked him to send me pictures of the replacement pads to ensure the issue doesn't repeat and more money out of my pocket on shipping. A few days later, he tells me he looked through 15 pads he had on hand and he doesn't feel that those will meet my expectations. He offered me a partial refund. Two days later, he refund my Pay Pal $20. Am I happy? Not really. I'm done with this deal. I've moved on. You tell if $20 is a fair refund? I paid almost $100.

I didn't send mine back because he didn't have a replacement that will meet my expectations (same as the other pad I got). He suggest I order another pair from Headroom. I emailed Headroom about the pads. They said the JMoney ear pads are NOT returnable if they don't meet my expectations. That means you get what we send you and you're on your own. I did not order another pair. I'm moving on. Education is expensive right?

I would ask for another one. $100 or whatever it costs, if you aren't happy, ask for a replacement.

I'm not out of line to think it's not up to normal expectations right?  I have emailed JMoney and I am waiting for his reply.

Your not out of line at all. Thats not acceptable. Im tired of people around here doing shotty work and trying to take advantage of the new hot thing around headfi. Not that I havent seen good work from jmoney, I have a fantastic headband for my graods from him. But in general, its getting old paying for something and garbage crap work for it

In my experience J$ is very very slow to respond to emails, I wish this guy had a phone line setup it would make things much easier. I actually gave up trying to purchase directly from him and paid a little extra to order from headroom.

You are certainly not out of line here. I would do the same if one of my J$ pads were in the same condition. These things are expensive and you certainly deserve what you paid.

the left pad does look hastily put together, bad form on the seller.

I certainly hope he will make things right without additional shipping cost to me. I didn't order from Headphones.com because I wanted to support the maker directly. I have very little recourse because Pay Pal payment was made via "personal" and bank transfer as required by J$. I'll update this thread as things progress. I hope it will be positive.

It is obviously seen that the earpad was not properly put together, also I expected them to be even thicker. Good Luck.

Wouldn't it have been better to at least wait for his response before starting a thread here? confused.gif

I think he wanted to make sure hes not just being paranoid.

I dont think so. I am going through my own issue with another headfier sending out shoddy work over and over. I have yet to name names, but I dont see a problem in doing it. If the person in question(in any matter) were called out for their actions, maybe they would think twice about charging you money and sending out something thats good enough.

Right and I completely agree with him. If they were 20.00 pads, I wouldn't expect a lot. But for a 100.00, you would expect the fit and finish to be much better. And I hope he does the right thing, but he doesn't have to. If a seller required my paypal payment to be personal and a bank transfer(basically giving you no protection at all), that would make me suspicious enough to not deal with them. If it were me, I would have gotten them from headroom. There have been many here on headfi who wanted to do the noble thing and support the manufacturer directly and got burned. But he has been in business for a while and hopefully he will make things right.

It is easier to exercise some quality control before shipping products out to paying customers.
