Mr purist over here is just ensuring that since i didn't formally receive education in sound/music production, i go to great lengths to reproduce sound just the way it was documented. Now being that i'm from a long line of old school musicians who still believe in live performance and not some "digital version" i think its safe to say that my overcompensation is truly justified.

I think Mr. Purist shouldn't even be using a computer to begin with. DVD players do a much better job with music playback. Foobar slightly colors the sound and screws up the soundstage. uLilith colors the sound differently and also screws up the soundstage, just not as much. Reclock: same thing.
Out of my less than perfect DVD player, my music truly comes to life; my computer sounds a bit sterile and slightly muddy by comparison regardless of what media player and output (USB or SPDIF) I use.
And dat soundstage with my DVD player

I would like to see those sources that you have stating such nonsense.
No!!! on the contrary, i love foobar...my compulsion for perfection drove me to foobar...i just feel like there's something better out there now.

Yes i do have the essence ST + H6...and i maintain the original channel 2 and my output is also 2. (stereo). And i do understand the whole idea behind DRC, but understand that i just can't get myself to knowingly initiate a software/hhardware feature that would add any "ingredients" to the sound reproduction.
