What portable player should I get? - Page 3

I found out that the benefit from Fiio E7 or E5 when used together with my iaudio9 is that you get better bass and a litlte warmer sound..

This conclusion came up when i tested the combo with senns 448's and ath-M50's..

thanks everyone I'll be getting the J3 in the upcoming weeks.

I received my J3 yesterday and i want to say that this thing is fracking AMAZING...

The sound coming out of it is simply phenomenal.

It outperforms iaudio9 so much in every way..

I also instaled Aero Music from kizune and the browsing is far more fun.

You can get it from    http://iaudiophile.net/forums/showthread.php?t=38372

Without EQ both devices are pretty equal.  They do have different sound signatures but it's not anything significant.  Cowon does have better synergy with a lot of my headphones but it doesn't "blow the touch out of the water" or anything like that.

Besides the SQ, the J3 definitely has the edge with it's tactile buttons and much longer battery life.  That's why for dedicated audio I consider it superior to the touch, which I hardly even consider a "dedicated" audio player.  I use my touch as much as I use my J3; it's a very useful device although I don't listen to music on it.  I did at one point use the touch for both music as well as my other tasks but once I got my J3 I liked it's audio functions enough to justify carrying both devices around in my pockets.

If you're talking about the Touch's default EQ presets here, then that is not a fair comparison....add the 7 band Equalizer parametric EQ app and that changes everything and makes a huge difference.

If you're saying J3 outperforms iaudio9 in sound, then I'm calling BS....it's better in video, and battery life, and UI,  but they sound the same, according to dfkt, who owned both at the same time.

Without EQ the J3 sounds pretty poor IME. Does anyone else agree?

With EQ/BBE I prefer it to my iPhone 4 (using EQu app) and Rockbox'd Clip+.

EQu and Equalizer apps are both $2.99 USD

I do have the app but I still prefer jeteffects. Especially with BBE the j3 is still better after eq imo.

Yeap it outperforms the i9.

I also own both of them and i can tell you for sure that it sounds warmer, more clear and a tick more soundstaging.

But to tell you the truth i only tested them paired with a E7.

Maybe the E7 matches better with the J3 than with the i9.

With all three players though, the sound quality difference isn't really enough so that once you use one you won't go back to the other.  If I don't listen to my J3 and use my itouch for a day it will sound absolutely fine and I won't notice any difference in the quality.  It's just that side by side I have a preference.
