How are you thinking that For The Money works out to FOTM? You're missing the O. FOTM is Flavor Of The Month (i.e. the overhyped new toy that gets exaggerated praise).

I was a bit scared when I saw the quote because I been using FOTM as Flavor of the Month and not "for the money"... good to know I been using it right. LOLLL

They have very full sound yet still extremely detailed and clean, sound signature is very close to big cans and home systems. 

 

The budget brands are pretty good, as good as you can get for a pretentiously hifi sound experience but looking at your home setup I'm sure you already know the one thing that's always true: you get what you pay for. 


Thanks for the suggestion. As a musician, I eventually plan on getting some good custom molded IEMs. I don't have a problem moving up from where I'm at now. You are very correct though - You get what you pay for, for sure.

Thanks for the suggestion guys! I ordered the Brainwavs M3 yesterday evening. I really don't like the idea of the detatchable cable. I can see these earbuds going through a lot and don't really want the worry of the cable. In addition, I liked all the M3 reviews I read. Perhaps the SE215's are something I'll try for another day. I should be getting my M3's some time today. I'll let you know what I think!

Great to hear you've made up your mind!  I'm sure you'd be very happy with the M3, though I'm surprised they'd arrive so quickly.  Where did you order them from?

This is where I got mine. Overnighted for maximum fees. First listen, Mid range is nice. Bass is a bit boomy right now, and there's a little too much treble roll off but I'm sure they'll open up after break-in. I'm really happy with both the stereo imaging and isolation. I'm typing at my desk at my office and at normal listening volumes it's pretty solid.  I'm satisfied thus far! I've listened to Jean Luc Ponty's Cosmic Messenger album almost all the way through. Next'll probably be Jamiroquai's new one - Rock Dust Light Star.

Yeah, I don't know where he got "for the money" out of FOTM...

 

Anyways, the PFEs sound very good. I only have the grey filter, so I can't really comment on the other filters, but from my impression of them with the grey filter, they sound very nice. Clarity and neutrality come to mind. I might actually order different filters instead of selling them. With the grey filter, they have a tiny bass impact, but good texturing of the bass. Also, you shouldn't have any trouble powering them; I also have an iPod Touch (3G, same SQ as 4G) and just slightly need to increase volume while listening to them.

 

If you really want something to blow you away SQ wise, I think the Pro Coppers will do the job. They have very good clarity and airiness to them, but retain a hard-hitting bass and smooth mids. $223 is a good price on them, but you might want to see if they are back in-stock at the Monsters Outlet store for $150 (I think Monster bumped up the price...). If I were to spend $223 on them (got them for $90 on the FS Forum), I would still be a very, very happy person.

 

Oh, they also look quite nice biggrin.gif

 

Edit: Pfft, didn't see there was a second page rolleyes.gif. The M3 is still a good pick.
