plus loads of hackers...
i've played 32 v 32 games. they're not that great and are often chaotic. 16 v 16 is the way to go.
So Ontrac just stopped by w/ my new GR07...
So not only are they the wrong product, but they've got ear wax on the tips. I ordered from Overstock Deals ~ fulfilled by Amazon because:
1. picture was clearly an MKI/MKII
2. review said he got an MKII
Is this my fault. Absolutely. Am I disappointed? Not @ all. Here's why:
1. Amazon is refunding me immediately
2. Amazon is letting me keep these GR07 Bass editions for 30 days
3. Amazon is giving me a credit of $20 So it looks like I'll get a chance to compare the MKII's w/ the Bass edition.
Now...time to start cleaning w/ 99.9% alcohol...
Edit: Also, I have to purchase this w/ a prepaid visa (hence the amazon over lendmeurears purchase). Ideas of where to buy from next?
Edit2: Is mp4nation.net a safe place to order from?
Got a GR07 BE about a week ago, Decided to go BE because I listen to LCD-2's quite often and I would say that's my perfect sound signature (Warm Dark but detailed throughout the whole range, lush and completely 0 fatigue) I was thinking the MK2 might sound a little too weightless to me, I use full size headphones for comparsion because Im just starting my foray into IEM's I had another Bio cellulose driver headphone (Creative Aurvana Live!) and I absolutely love those, they are not as detailed and kind of slow but absolutely 0 fatigue.
So I have about 150 hours at least burned into these from an O2/Odac and they sound really good but, the bass seems to exaggerated to me IT IS very crisp and meaty and seems to have some good speed but on some tracks the bass is simply overpowering, I listen to a lot of drum and bass and ambient type stuff with piano as well as a little metal.
I also feel like these are quite fatiguing, The detail retrieval is great but gets to be too much its hard for me to listen to them for more than an hour at anything besides extremely low volumes.
I guess I don't really have a point to this post just saying my impressions, I really love these they sound great but I wish they were slightly darker maybe I just have incredibly sensitive ears? does anyone know if the Mk.2 sounds warmer/darker than the BE?
Vsonic GR07 MKII vs Vsonic GR07 Bass Edition
1) Gotham's Reckoning - The Dark Knight Rises OST
The BE simply sounds EPIC on this track. The low end weight is reminiscent of the main villain in the movie. It's strong, yet fast and articulate. The great thing here is that the atmosphere of the song does not suffer at all compared to the MKII. The main difference here is in the starkness of the detail. They both have similar amounts of detail, but the BE's bass quantity tends to soften the immediacy of the presentation. This also lends to a smoother top end.
One important thing here is that the MKII has "enough" bass to carry the song. The BE just has that extra oomph to put it over the top for those who want more.
2) Oakland UFO - The Flashbulb
Again, the BE sounds more euphonic here due to the bigger bass and warmer presentation. Despite the MKII having slightly more clarity, I prefer the BE for the way it adds extra fullness to the snare and synth sounds.
3) Little Lion Man - Mumford and Sons
This particular track isn't the most well mastered track, so the extra bass of the BE sounds a bit out of place here. I also preferred the MKII's slight boost in clarity, as it was useful in making out some of the more hidden details.
Overall winner: Tie.
The Bass Edition is exactly what the name implies, a GR07 with a boosted low end. he side effect of this is a warmer, more euphonic presentation than may or may not be to your liking. In the course of my listening, I found the BE would work better for some tracks, while the MKII would work well for others. It's really up to you to determine the kind of presentation you want.
Thanks for that I guess I will have to look elsewhere then, not sure If I am going to be keeping these I do really really love them I just wish they were darker and a bit more lush, not knowing IEM's does anyone have anything that comes to mind based on my description? Until then I shall keep burning these in hoping they get a little darker.
I think you'd really like the MKII. There's a person here who accidentally got the BE and dislike the extra bass. His own MKII is on its way. You could wait around a bit to see when he posts impressions of the two.
I don't find mp4nation to be reliable. They might not be dishonest but are not reliable. They list the GR07 BE on sale but after I ordered it, I have been waiting almost 4 weeks for it and they charged my Paypal right when I made the order. I e-mailed them and they said they are waiting for VSonic to supply them more. They shouldn't have listed it as in stock and they shouldn't have charged the account until they could fulfill it. So I had to cancel.
Well your review makes it sound like the MKII would actually be brighter, I mean I think the bass on the BE is a little too much but it probably does make it sound a bit warmer overall, on the BE it feels like the lows to low mids are warm and everything above that is bright so the sound feels kind of dissconnected IMO kinda V shaped, based on graphs and from what I can tell they are not actually V shaped its just the slightly overdone bass gives it that impression because everything else in the spectrum compared to it seems bright.
Anyways I don't know if you guys know but Tyll recently measured both of them
As you can see the differences in the FR graph are within about 2db of each other in changes
You can see the extra curve in the 30hz square wave response giving the impression that the bass is more strung out, after initial impulse it rolls back up just slightly and back down, It still is pretty fast for how much of it there is though and its pretty powerful.
The 300hz square wave kinda shows the V shaped feeling I am getting even though it does not quite show in the FR graph, If the overall tone was changed a lot between the two it would show on the FR graph but that is not the case as it is barely changed, you can see it is a lot more energetic and can be compared to the Fostex TH-900. http://www.innerfidelity.com/images/FostexTH900.pdf
If you guys have not seen his article explaining square wave responses you should check it out
Pretty much I think if you are a Basshead the BE is seriously quite amazing for the amount of bass they deliver while still being controlled without too much ringing.
I am probably gonna check out the MKII
It looks like I will also be ordering through them we shall see.
If there's anything missing just let Amazon know and they will issue a partial refund (if you decide to keep them). As I stated in an earlier post, the hard case was missing with mine.
