Yes, I agree. I found the 840 bass lacking for a closed can. It is fun, nonetheless, but could use some more 'thump.' I mean... it did have more bass than my Q701 but not enough for what I want in a closed can.

Also, this journey is sort of difficult because I want slightly above neutral bass without hampering the mids or highs. From what I keep reading the HP100 might be it. I ordered them, yesterday so we'll see.

Here's a comparison with your A900X I found on the HP100 thread

First off, just comparing aesthetics, I do like the look of the A900x headphones more than the HP100s.  That's not to say the HP100s are ugly, they aren't.  I just wish they did away with the glossy ear cups.  The A900xs have a nice look and feel to them.  Build-quality could go either way.  I think the A900x's are well built.  They feel sturdy.  The HP100s also feel well-built.

Now, comfort is where the two headphones are very different.  I think the HP100s are very comfortable, and this comes from a guy who normally can't stand leather pads.  Somehow the HP100s just disappear on my head and I forget they are there.  To me, they are even more comfortable than my HD800s.  Yep.  The HD800s are comfortable, but after wearing them a while, I start feeling pressure from the headband and even the ear pads.  The HP100s don't do this.  Comparing the HP100s to the A900x's - the HP100s easily take the comfort crown.  The A900x's use the ATH Wing system and this just doesn't work form me.  It feels like the headphone is about to fall off at any time.  I don't like it.

Sound-wise, I will just get right to it and say that I prefer the HP100's presentation over the A900x's presentation.  The A900x has a warmer signature than the HP100s.  I feel that the HP100s retrieve more detail and present it in a more neutral way.  I love how the HP100s give me all of that detail in the highs and mids and still manage to produce such deep sub bass that doesn't overpower anything.  The A900x's did impress me though, they are nicely detailed with full mids and nice bass.  If I had never heard the HP100s, I might have just kept the A900x's and would have been happy.  However, when comparing the two, I just couldn't shake the impression that the A900x's came off as a little boomy and less refined than the HP100s.  I also liked the soundstage on the HP100s more than the A900x's.  I am still impressed with the HP100s ability to produce a very nice soundstage with great imaging.

I am still very impressed with the HP100.  It continues to perform above it's price range and outperform other closed headphones."

Edit: Anyway, back to the GR07. Did I ever mention it is AWESOME!!! ksc75smile.gif

"Gift for a friend" hoho could that be me. tongue.gif Great to hear you are liking these gr07 BE's that much Unity. Your friend is in for a real treat, and don't forget to burn them in for at least 200hrs for him/her.

The K550 is similar in bass to the SRH940 which has less bass than the 840 (both cans have unbelievable mids and treble though). I own the 940 at the moment and sold the K550 a while back and find the mids and treble make up for the slightly lower bass quantity that I wouldn't trade off for more bass.

LOL. I needz to gift MOAR! Shall I send you a lightly used 2007 YZF R1? Probably won't fit in a USPS Priority Mail Small Flate Rate Box tho...

I have the other "precious" burning in nonstop on a iPhone 3G playing this(link was on headfi).

Yes the FXZ200s have more bass than the gr07 BEs esp. the sub bass. BUT overall the gr07 BEs have better bass texture/ lushness and speed. The bass quality of the FXZ200s is more smooth and meaty compared to the BEs esp. after you burn them in for like 1-2 months. I AM DEAD SERIOUS, you need to burn these suckas in for at least one month on the highest/ loudest volume you got with EDM/ heavy bass tracks.

I use VLC player on my lappy at max 200% volume and maxed out on my soundcard wave hooked up to my cheapo ELE DAC. That's how intense the FXZ200 can take it and needs to take in order to beat those drivers into submission. If you want to be a bit more safe, volume at 150% should also do. These FXZ200s take a lot of juice to drive them loud hence burning them at such high volumes doesn't phase them much.

I e-mailed them and they said they are waiting for VSonic to supply them more. They shouldn't have listed it as in stock and they shouldn't have charged the account until they could fulfill it. So I had to cancel.

Yup, they just responded to my ticket. Told me waiting for shipment to arrive next week. I'm not too worried about it, things sometimes happen. Even amazon has at times made errors: sending me a children's book, movie, and pink Nintendo DS case when I ordered a WD TV. I was LOL'ing when I opened that package.

that's pribably what made the 840s so exciting to listen to in guitar center.

My MkII's keep getting better and better Id say I am at about 90-120 hours of burn in by now alternating bass heavy stuff and pink noise.

They sound better and much more textured than the BE's and there is plenty of bass for me I AM SO HAPPY WITH THESE!
