TDK. I wouldn't consider it an upgrade to the GR07 though; perhaps to the SE215. I'd say hold out for ASG-2 and GR08 reviews.

The BA200 imo is a nice little upgrade over the GR07 but everyone has different opinions.  It has the same level of detail but the BA200 has a much better and more cohesive soundstage as it has good depth along woth good width which makes the imaging better as well.  The GR07 is a very nice IEM but I think its just a bit over hyped from time to time, as you can see from me signature below that its mid-pack in my IEM list though I'd put it just ahead of the MH1C that I have the other way around so I need to change that.

Thanks for the responses - I'm going to sit back a wait for the GR08. I've also seen the Earsonics SM3 on Amazon for $300 and have been a bit intrigued with that one...given my love for the GR07, I'm going to wait and see...

I would also disagree --- hence my BA200 is for sale over my GR07s.  I initially preferred the GR07 mk1.1 over the mk2 I just received, but I think the bass is starting to extend a little and the crispy highs starting to smooth out on the new mk2 ---- either that or my brain is adjusting.

I agree with you.

Well I think it's pretty simple to summarize as this: if you didn't think the GR07 was all that great for you, then yeah, you may find mid tier BA's like the BA200, SM2 and UM2 an upgrade. Those 3 have different sigs but are quite similar on a technical level and all fine IEMs.

I could argue the CK10 would be an upgrade in technical ability but I don't think that's going to really help doublea71, as it sounds to me he loves the GR07 and wants to improve upon its presentation, sig and ability.

However if you really love what the GR07 is about, in no way will you find those upgrades. Theyre going backward from what you find great in the vsonic house sound. So for the average gr07 lover, its going to possibly take something like the two new Hifimans, GR08 or ASG-2. All yet to be released and all significantly more expensive. At least that's my reasoning.

Great post! Couldn't have said it any better.

Though I do agree that the BA200 can be an upgrade for some people, it is a bit difficult comparing mid-tier dynamic with BA IEMs (like comparing stats and dynamics for headphones), they have their + and - and a fundamentally different attributes in presenting sound (air movement, bass and treble presentation, and sometimes timbre). I had the BA200, SM2, UM2 and all went on sale while I keep the GR07. Even the SM3 which I think is a pretty good BA in the end couldn't supplant the GR07 for me. The UE900 is very nice but it's quite a different flavor from the GR07.

I do think the EX1000 is a potential upgrade path for those who like the GR07 but it's always a good idea to audition first.

I like the gr07 only slightly more than the re0, which I remembered to have incredible highs, and which I would prefer any day over the SM3, which just sounds flat out unnatural and messed up to my ears. I might just get an re0 to replace my broken gr07, since re0 is so cheap these days. I will likely miss the sub-bass of the gr07, but I've never really cared that much for bass, anyways. For me, music is 50% mids, 30% highs, and 20% lows. The only thing the gr07 seems to have much better than the re0 is the low-lows.

It seems to me that the RE0 has less emphasized treble that is smoother throughout, and probably a bit rolled compared to the GR07, without the GR07's peaks. The RE0's bass is definitely closer to flat, and it's mids are definitely more forward.

There's something funky going on though with decay or something else though that hurts the RE0's clarity. Individual sounds aren't as clean imo.

Have you though about etymotic?

If there is such decay that hurts RE0's clarity, sm3 takes that to another level. The sm3 has little to no clarity. People who like it say that it's very musical, so to each their own. I have to give the ER4S a try, sometime. I'm very interested in how it sounds. The Tzar 350 also seems very interesting, but it sits outside of my current budget.

I've heard that about the SM3. I'd love to hear it without the filter though. I'm loving the ER4S.

I hear sibilance from the sm3, and its graph shows that it has plenty of treble; so I'm not sure why people say it's treble-recessed. However, I can guess that its exaggerated decay in the lower mids and lows makes it seem as though there's little treble. I would say the sm3 has average-quality highs. Nothing to really write home about; unlike the RE0, which has highs that I'm missing a lot.

Ok, quick question:

T-PEOS H100 for $120

TDK BA200 for $141

VSonic GR07 for $163

JVC FXD80 for $100

Sony MH1c for $28

Sony XBA-3 for $120 (these are the only I can buy locally, no waiting for shipping and superb warranty)

Which do you guys thinks offer the best sound (I would ask the best bang for my buck but I think is pretty obvious that that would be the Sony MH1c), I am using the Brainwavz B2, they are great but they can sound thin and harsh at times (specially from my zune hd) I will run them unamped. The B2 offers incredible clarity and is quite transparente,  I think that is the first phone that sounds just right, not veiled like my Alessandro MS1i. I used to own a pair of HJE900 and they were great but they broke (incredible I know) and someone stole my Eterna, I loved the way the eterna sound, so smooth and almost liquid mids, the were a bit narrow on the soundstage and lacked the clarity of the B2 but they were pretty easy going with everything (Megadeth to t.A.T.u.). Any advise? I am willing to speend up tp 200 bucks but I want some top tier sound, dynamic and with more bass than the B2. Many thanks in advance.
