VSONIC GR07 Impressions & Appreciation Thread - Page 172

Just thought I'd give a brief update on my GR07s. Still loving them! LOL ... I find that they are kind of like chameleon's, they can sound truly incredible on certain recordings, as well as pretty mediocre on bad recordings. I find myself being drawn to quality recordings, and paying more attention to the recording than with my previous IEMs. When these shine, it's really a great experience. The balance is so subtle but so clear at the same time, it really points out how "colored" other IEMs are.

Still loving the bass on these. The lack of mid-bass and the sub-bass presence, combined with a solid midrange and slightly forward (to my ears) high end, makes for a nearly perfect combination. Sometimes I feel them straining on contemporary recordings (esp. electro-pop stuff like M83, when synth and voice combine sometimes the vocals seem strained) but I can't be sure if this is the recording or the phones.

I have to agree with the chorus that drums do, for some reason, sound really really good on these. The timbre/tone is just right, very snappy. Cymbals have great energy and presence.

I'm not sure if I'm getting a great seal w/ supplied tips. I didnt receive the double flange tips when i bought mine through amazing, so im using the biggest silicone tips provided but i think they are too small. I've ordered some Comply T400s and I plan to trim them to prevent muffling. I'm going to order the RE0 bi-flange and maybe even the Jays tips too just so I can have some options. I hope I can get a deep seal.

Springy cable is annoying and tends to pop out from behind ear, but I find that if I cinch the cords under my chin they tend to stay in place.

Probably have close to 100 hours on these, cant say i notice much difference, maybe a wider soundstage and smoother sound overall. Sibilance never bothered me with these, not sure what to think about that!

I completely agree on the quality of recording being of paramount importance to their performance. I've been gravitating towards the same stuff because they really do sound incredible if the recording and/or mastering is well done. The Norah Jones album I have sounds fantastic, as does Alice in Chains Unplugged...I can tell right away if I'm going to delete a file as soon as I begin playing it. After you experience something that sounds good, it's nearly impossible to tolerate lesser recordings with these IEMs.

I'm going to burn them in sufficiently before I make my final judgment...they are a bit of an unfinished product and I'd rather have some iems that left no stone unturned in their fit and finish after getting the sound right of course. I feel like I'm spending a lot of time making the cable behave and it's a bit distracting. Also, these are pretty unforgiving of lesser recordings and I'm not sure if that is a strength or weakness. Quite a few of my flac files don't sound very good at all through these. However, when the recording is good, they do sound fairly awesome. Maybe when I get my hands on a J3, this will be less of an issue.

I've honestly never had any significant problems with the cable, at least when I use the earguides.  The earguides with the original models were actually pretty good...

Still though, these were designed as serious studio monitors - I'm thinking that maybe that's not what you're looking for.

That's possible - these are the first expensive iems I've bought. I definitely like their neutral sound - nary a weakness as many have said. They are easy on the ears comfort-wise which is important. I don't know if I can do better for the price since I'm so new to head-fi and haven't had a chance to try many products.

@doublea71, I find the cables quite supple and well behaved when I wear them without the earguides, which is pretty much always. They also are quite relaxed when coiled up.

X2 Also as it was suggested to me that, simply turn the phone 1 turn Counterclockwise before inserting (That's What She Said), with no ear guides

Maybe I have the older model - I got them from lendmeurears.com a couple of weeks ago. Your cables look quite a bit darker than mine - I don't know if that's a trick of the light from your camera or if they are really that dark. Mine are a silver color which I guess will turn green over time. Coiling them isn't the nuisance; it's when I uncoil them that they go out of wack. I have to twist them as I uncoil so that they don't dont retain any small loops which they always want to do. If I'm able to find some decent tips and they improve after burning in, I'll probably keep them. I will consider a trade in the future, though. I'm not exactly sure what I'm after, perhaps something that is more forgiving to less than stellar recordings. I don't know what IEMs would qualify...maybe TF10s? Oh well, this is part of the fun I suppose, right? Once again, with the right recordings, they really do sound awesome.

I have had a similar experience with the cable. Most of my library is either FLAC or mp3 VBR ripped using EAC and LAME and the differences album to album just vary on the overall finish of the album for me. I am about positive even though I have only had them going on 4 weeks I got the older version. The cable is very limber above the yoke, but they are very finicky about rotation (eg. sometimes the yoke wants to twist even though the upper cables are not twisted at all, the yoke will not lay flat because of "springynes" in the upper cable). The lower part is a bit springy and I find my self rotating my dap to have the cord hang straight even though I don't run/jog/do stealth missions with these iem's on. It's in no way bad enough to be a deal breaker snd really just splitting hairs, but for my taste in ease of use, it's the reason they never travel to work with me.

Just a random though I was pondering. I noticed some people report sibilance, others don't. Those who report sibilance seem to be more readily satisfied with the sound and those who don't it seems to take a while for. I know that mine have required right up to 170+  hours of burn in and now I love them. I think you might just need more burn in still. I have put 72 more hours on them this week and now they are awesome, but on Monday lol, well I wasn't so sure.

Yeah that sums it up pretty well. I haven't been counting the hours so far but I'd guess somewhere around 40 right now. I may just burn them in without using them at all until I'm sure that they're past 200 hours and then see how they sound.  I tried my cks50s tonight and they sure aren't in the same ballpark as the vsonics.

Guess each individual set differs then. My cable is supple and stays in place; never kinks or tangles. Just that they are slightly bouncy.

Yeah, mine don't kink really and definitely don't tangle, it's just more like having braided rope I guess and less like a shoe string. If any twisting motion is present in the cable it holds the energy and tries to unwind.

I would highly recommend burning them in. I just threw a mixed CD with rap, rock and acoustic in a stereo in my living room and I plug them up before bed and let them play overnight and through the work day at a slightly loud volume. In my experience 40 hours is roughly 1/3 of the way and at that point they hadn't changed at all. I now have about 200 on them and I'm pretty sure they're done. Oh, and now I really like them!

I am sad to say that my GR07s have died...I'm not really sure what to do with them now though, since I bought them from a store on Taobao in china, and I don't really know if VSonic does any repairs or anything themselves, not to mention shipping charges...

How long did you have them?

I am sorry to hear that, are you still in China? I am here in China and perhaps I can help you to send your GR07 for repair in their factory in Dongguan. It should have one year warranty.
