Sean Malone - Cortlandt

He was the bass player in Cynic and is quite well known as a bass magician.

Malone, Gilbert and Portnoy playing YYZ. This is awesome.

Voidloss is my favourite bass-master:

If that's reproduced well with all the attack and nuances (there's pulsating rhythms going in and out etc), then it's good enough for me. :D HD800 really shines here. My monitors and sub have a long way to go to achieve the same..

(You might want to try better versions -> here)

Put your cans on and tune the 120 range down to inaudible. See how low and loud before you distort.

Hands down best bass I have heard on my LCD-2 was KOAN Sound - Wide Open.

Don't know if it has been suggested already, but Lorde's new album "Pure Heroine" is very bass prounounced.  Have a go, you'll really test your cans.

I get the same way when I haven't listened to that song in a while.

Another song that has ridiculous low sub bass in it is Barry Jamieson - Arp Thing. At around the one minute mark it has some of the lowest bass I have heard.

Mirininc

Listened to "Arp Thing."  Fantastic!

Take a listen at my recording I just posted on YouTube.  This is all orchestral, no electronics.  Listen to the kettle drum at 3:22 .

This from from my own vinyl recording.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Zshkg3bVGA you guys should really give this a listen, the bass is quite melodic and still has a good rumble

One of my favorites to test with bass is "The Priest and the Matador" by Senses Fail.  The song "Negative Space" is also a good one (they should have been part of the same song IMO, not sure why it got split up).  The beginning would be the location to listen to (in the Priest and the Matador).  It's very basic, but has texturing, booms, and rumbles.  The booms go away, but the texturing and rumbling remain throughout.

So how does one go about testing the bass on headphones?

I mean I can hear the bass. It's there, but how would I judge it?
