Been saying much the same for years.  Subscription television is the biggest ripoff I know of.  And even the broadcast network TV isn't worth watching.  If it's not on PBS, I probably didn't see it.

Cable TV is worth it for CNN and the new Travel Channel shows like Anthony Bourdain and Off Limits alone

Aww they killed off my favorite fictitious character... just when Obama's chances of reelection were in doubt... what are the chances... rolleyes.gif

I prefer the "old" CNN when 24 hour news was the focus instead of all of these special interest stories and shows.

I disagree, I think cable TV is worth it for the BBC channels... AKA BBC World News and BBC America. Great news and some great programming.

Yes, I love the Beeb.

But it's still not worth forking over $60+ a month for bundled channels that suck. And I like BBC radio better, anyway. Still comes in free on shortwave and I sometimes stream it.

The BBC kept me sane when I lived in the Middle of Nowhere. I could tune in their world service and hearing someone say "this is London" was comforting. I knew civilization still existed. The small town I was in was like living in an endless monster truck rally.

QFT.  How convenient, the man who supposedly perpetrated 9/11 gets killed near the 10-year anniversary of 9/11, during a burgeoning Obama administration that had no achievements with which to accredit themselves.  Now they can claim success in their War on Terror, making them a shoe-in for next election, while simultaneously vindicating the last administration and this one from the money spent and lives lost abroad.

Meanwhile, Osama and Saddam, the two convenient scapegoats for the country's covert economic expansionism into sovereign foreign nations, have probably cut a deal with the government in return for living out their lives in comfort on the taxpayer's dime.  Probably got plastic surgery to change their faces and are living it up as we speak.

All we know is what they want us to think we know.

And yeah, TV still sucks.

I don't think it'll change anything.

I disagree, early reports show improved stocks. And if anything this will do wonders for American morale. In terms of the situation in the Middle East, I unfortunately have to agree. This might actually make things worse. This could rally the terrorists, and create more problems in the future. Naturally I hope this is not the case, but I cannot help but feel like it is.

(side note, everything I've been saying seems to be a disagreement in this thread... I should really move to change that)

Interesting. Could this be the beginning of the end of the longest war in U.S. history?

Vietnam? No, that ended in 1975.

IT'S ALL A CONSPIRACY!!!!!! rolleyes.gif

Come on people, listen to how ridiculous you sound, only on head-fi lol. . .

I was talking about terrorism. Of course it will give the stock market a small improvement over a small amount of time and it will mildly affect some other things (like the election) as well. The problems in the middle east and terrorism in general aren't caused by certain individuals.

I don't see how this would make things worse for long. No leader means chaos. Desperation = stupid decisions.  Of course, I don't know what's going to happen but this event is only positive and just.

Um... Bid Laden dies and first thing you think is conspiracy? Obama just wants to be President to get the diamond hidden under the White House. He doesn't care about the next election.

I hope the body isn't turned over to his family. Cremation, then dump the ashes in the middle of the ocean. No gravesite that can be turned into a shrine that way.

Story says he was buried at sea. Good riddance.

Well I guess the U.S. government has paid and paid and paid for this moment.  I sure hope it was worth it all.
