Greetings fellow music lovers (and fellow gear heads)!
Let's start right out by sharing that I'm actually looking for information about ANY decent device capable of playing lossless music files and outputting them in digital coaxial or optical formats. I have a large collection of ripped music (most of which is 24/48 or 16/44.1), which I listen to mostly while driving through a fairly nice system.
The system weak point is probably the Sarotech DVP 260s and 260X media players - which supply coaxial signal to an Audison Bit One digital processor and d/a converter. I'm concerned that the Sarotech's may actually do more to the digital output signal than simply convert it from the hard drive output to a standardized digital signal (co-ax or optical), since on one model you can actually adjust the volume of the digi out signal.
Anyhow, I'm just wondering if any of you fine people are aware of a quality device capable of supplying high quality digital output signals from a 2.5" sata drive - or a USB output? I'd prefer not to have to pay the costs associated with an additional D/A converter (the Audison's is fairly good), although I'd consider any option in order to assure I have a good quality input signal for the rest of the system. I've looked a bit at the HIFIMAN option and the Iriver, but the Iriver's 40gb was a put off, since I'm running 500gb atm - mostly in .WAV format audio files.
I hope this isn't too off-topic for you - and that you'll be gracious enough to help a fellow digital audio and music fan!
Less aka Jim
