Pictures Of Your Portable Rig (part XV) - Page 376

That's from the Tokyo Headphone show, right? That one is kinda huge and unique if I remember. If it's the same rig as from the event, it has some unique elements you won't find anywhere else for the most part. I like the idea of portable rigs where even if it's strecthing your pocket, it still technically can fit in it somehow.

Right, which is impossible with more than three units, generally speaking.

I can fit a phone, ipod and mini3 in one pocket, but that really is the outer limit.

Maybe I should get a pair of cargo pants instead of jeans...

The SR71B isn't world beating with CIEM's either. It drives all my full sized phones in balanced mode pretty much better than anything else in my arsenal including the Fi-Q. But for CIEM's I much prefer the Tomahawk even single ended it has resolution to die for....... it's an amazing little amp!

No doubt though the RX and CLAS look real nice together.

I think the iPod Classic and Pico Slim setup I use is about it for me. I might only get slightly thicker with the diyMod 240gb iPod Video I am getting soon, and then was considering getting the TTVJ Slim to pair with it. I think that's as thick of a portable rig I would want to get.

As I said above, I think the TTVJ Slim will be a nice pairing for me. I love the Pico Slim. It has amazing qualities to it, but I don't like how inconvenient my mounting solution is, so I am looking into other amps or other solutions for me. I also have the itch for better and better quality, but in terms of amps their is not much ways to go when I am almost exclusively using my CIEM's for my portable setup. In fact, it's retty much my only setup right now, but working to fix that.

The cable used is Canare bought through an ebay seller who makes them privately. The amp and Clip+ run much smoother at higher volumes. A lot more detail!
I also have a solid silver cable from the same selller but prefer the copper atm.
Great quality!

What's the name of the seller?

My suggestion is If you plan on getting high end customs/universals whilst keeping that iPod as source, go for the pico. However if you plan on getting mid-range customs/universals, or if you plan on getting a different DAP in the future, such as a ibasso DX100 or a HiFiMan HM601/801, then the e17 would suffice in the mean time.

This is just my opinion, get some advice from some more experienced head-fier's before you pull the trigger :)

hugh, I guess 500 dollar customs are considered mid-range

Take a look at the JDS Labs c421, specifically wtih the AD8620 opamps. Cheaper than an Arrow, but supposedly gets fairly close in terms of SQ (from what I've heard, I haven't had a chance to audition an Arrow). It's definitely better than the amp in the E17, though it lacks the built in DAC. For portable use with an iPod, a DAC isn't necessary.

Thanks, the AD8620 opamps will be better for the iPod?

It's not how big your stack is, it's how you use it.

Someone needs to creat a program where custom cable makers can type in the different items of a customers rig and print out a template of the positioning so more things like this are possible and really convenient. Looks like hardly any excess cabling

You bet. Especially with sensitive IEMs like the UM3X, it completely eliminates hiss
